Alice Coltrane’s spiritual journey

If you have been past our door in the last week or so, you will no doubt have heard us hammering a quite exquisite (new) release from Alice Coltrane. Luaka Bop have unearthed private press recordings of largely unheard devotional music from Coltrane's later career, recorded at the 48-acre Sai Anantam Ashram she established outside Los Angeles in the early 1980s. Ranging from harp meditations to full 24-piece choir pieces, it is deeply spiritual music and quite an extraordinary listening experience.

Luaka Bop have also published a short documentary, click below and get obsessed.

The Ecstatic Music of Alice Coltrane's Turiyasangitananda on CD and vinyl.
