A descendent of a long line of artists and poets dating back to the 1800’s, Eliza’s great great grandfather was James Paterson, one of the Glasgow Boys – a group of artists challenging the style and subject of late Victorian Scottish painting.
Title track Run harnesses that power of provocation; “Run from me far and fast as you can before I ruin you”, Shaddad cries. It’s a deeply confessional sentiment, damning and yet liberating, and as unyielding as it is helplessly fragile.
Mercury Music Prize nominated producer Chris Bond’s influence here is clearly evident. The track is brooding, almost bursting with sensation. Catherine Marks (Wolf Alice/Foals) on mixing duties and John Davis (Blur/FKA Twigs/Royal Blood) on mastering complete the breadth of talent behind this toweringly expansive, devastatingly intimate sound.
