Record of the Week and sitting handsome on the racks right now is Earth, the debut album from Radiohead's Ed O'Brien as EOB. There was a great documentary a while back where Thom and Jonny were talking about overhearing solo project ideas and being jealous.... the band are going to be awful jealous and awful proud of this one, it really is a cracking album. The main narrative here is the beautiful harmony between the album's intricate and delicate pieces, and the full chug and gnarl of the big moments. Vocally he sounds fantastic. You can hear how much depth his fine voice adds to the group ensembles. Beautifully produced and full of excellent and really hooky songs. This excellent album deserves just as much attention as any other solo project, or the day job come to mention it!

Duo Shabazz Palaces return on Sub Pop with The Don Of Diamond Dreams and it's a right headspace this. Across their excellent discography, they have taken so many detours it's hard to actually pin down what they actually sound like, but if you can nail a description of this latest outing, this is them. A smokey haze to the vocals with lines and motifs appearing in and out of the smoke. From crunching synths to big jazz club baselines and brushed drums, there is well enough chopping and changing to keep you guessing. Sonically adventurous, this is a trip we highly recommended.

A corker of a live album on CD and LP for your home stereos. elbow 'Live at The Ritz' is an acoustic performance that really highlights that under all the massive and brilliant production, they are still excellent songwriters.
Melbourne quartet Primo! release Sogni on Upset The Rhythm and it has us giving it the big head bop. Their second LP was recorded in a number of home studios across Melbourne, but it has such a cohesive live vibe to it, it's simple but you can feel all the energy. Some lush hooks and some real pound to the bass.

Sir Richard Bishop returns (from far reaching travels) with the excellent Oneiric Formulary on Drag City. Full of mysterious ethereal timbres and some of his most spiritual sounding playing to date. Celerity at the start of the album, in particular, is a real vibe.
London based Tony Donson releases his new LP Joyful Death under the name Sonikku today on Bella Union. Massive pop bangers with some really lush production. Really smart this.

Rina Sawayama's debut LP Sawayama is due today, we think it is en route, more on that and others to follow.
One that has just arrived is Herbie Hancock's The Prisoner, his last for Blue Note reissued here in glorious fashion. The album is a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, evoking his spirit and dreams through spacious, exploratory post-bop.
