New week, old Stuff.
Hello, Friends.Looking backwards for the last time in February with our Best New Reissues.
A very handsome edition of an all-time classic this week with a fiftieth anniversary pressing of Fela Kuti Live! The iconic 1971 live concert from Fela and Africa '70 includes former Cream drummer Ginger Baker on two songs and this new edition also features Ginger Baker and Tony Allen’s blinding, dual-drums solos from 1978’s Berlin Jazz Festival. Re-mastered at Abbey Road Studios, it sounds so fresh and the etched D side is pretty cool too!
Fire Records release a compilation of Peel Sessions recorded by Boston band Come. Recorded between 1991 and 1993, there is a real blues-noir to their gnarled post-punk. Not only is this great, we also didn't know their discography nearly as well as we should have and have spent much of this afternoon digging in. Great band, great wrath!
Following the recent Mars Volta reissues, Clouds Hill have broken the chronology to go backwards and reissue Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala's first post-At the Drive-In release with the Tremulant EP. Loads of weird, spacious stuff and some proper frenetic freak outs.
+ Exclusive transparent vinyl.
Rounder reissue Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' really delicious Raising Sand collaboration. A great time to revisit after the pair's recent Raise The Roof release.
Big Crown Records release the second volume of their Crown Jewels compilation. Features cuts from; Bacao Rhythm and Steel Band, Holy Hive, Lady Wray, Liam Bailey and El Michels Affair.
+ Limited 'Golden Haze' colour vinyl.
We have two volumes of excuse the mess from the excellent Hidden Notes Records this week, a music podcast with a twist! The guests - Hannah Peel, Gold Panda, Anna Meredith, Galya Bisengalieva, Manu Delago, Robert Ames, Emily Hall, Oliver Coates, Mira Calix, Matt Calvert, Douglas Dare, Laura Jurd, Mark Lockheart, Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch, Anne Nikitin, Alev Lenz and Elliot Galvin - taking on the challenge of writing a brand new piece of music on the fly, in the room and with excuse the mess host, Ben Corrigan! Really wonderful stuff, this.
