Cosmic, motorik, trippy, psychedelic, intricate and Curtis.

Hello, Friends.

Back to the business of records everyday at Drift and some really superb reissues for you.

All headed up this week with House in the Tall Grass, a long-awaited repress from Kikagaku Moyo, Tokyo's masters of psychedelic-folk. It's such a subtle album; not always in pace or power, but just the way the mix gets fuller and the songs ebb and flow. It's such a heady meeting of pastoral folk, motorik beats, psychedelic ragas and some surprisingly gnarly rock squawks. So highly recommended, an absolute gem.

The Frightened Rabbit reissue series continues with the band's much-loved fourth album Pedestrian Verse this week. Produced alongside Leo Abrahams, it's a rich and epic listen but they never fail to keep that intimacy that made their songs so easy to connect with.

We had to stop taking preorders on Pedestrian Verse, but we do gladly have a good stash in the shop. We'll also have A Frightened Rabbit EP and State Hospital for sale on Friday night.

An absolutely essential reissue via We Want Sounds this week, with the extraordinary Sunrise From West Sea from Yamash'ta & The Horizon. A truly cosmic performance, recording live at Yamaha Hall in Tokyo on April 18, 1971. The all-night concert was recorded in front of an invite-only audience consisting of friends and musicians. It is such a hypnotic treasure, each musician truly bringing their powers in full flight. Awesome.

Curtis Mayfield - Curtis

Thrill Jockey make a long-overdue repress of Rhythms, Resolutions & Clusters, the Tortoise remix album. Out of print since 1995, features reworks from; Bundy K. Brown, Steve Albini, Jim O’Rourke, Brad Wood (Liz Phair), Casey Rice, Mike Watt (Minute Men) and Rick Brown (75 Dollar Bill). Pressed on limited Opaque Golden Yellow colour vinyl.

Originally released in 1957 on the Jubilee label, Mingus Three is one of only two albums led by Charles Mingus in a trio setting, featuring pianist Hampton Hawes and drummer Dannie Richmond. This remastered release includes a whole extra disc of previously unreleased outtakes, discovered by chance, from these sessions, as well as liner notes by Charles Mingus’ friend and colleague Sy Johnson. Nicely done.

An absolutely excellent set of Nils Frahm reissues on his own LEITER label. Durton pairs tracks from 2006’s digital-only My First EP and five previously unheard compositions, Electric Piano features seven fragile and graceful compositions and Streichelfisch illustrates his earliest gestures towards intricate, exquisite soundscapes.

"Streichelfisch, IMO: It still stands as one of the most inventive works in contemporary alt-electronic music." - Leo Drift.

Oh, and just as we were about to hit send we finally got a restock on Curtis Mayfield's all-time awesome Curtis. Straight on the stereo.
