Darkside - Nothing

February is all about transmissions of negative space, telepathic seance and spectral improvisation… Man, are we hyped to have Darkside back!

February 2025 Record of the Month.

2013’s Psychic and 2021’s Spiral albums both absolutely blew our lids over here at Drift, so the forthcoming Nothing album has been one of 2025’s most eagerly-anticipated arrivals for us. Darkside are the collaborative forces of Nicolás Jaar and Dave Harrington, now extended out to a trio with percussionist - and longtime friend and collaborator - Tlacael Esparza joining the core line-up on the third studio LP.

The trio began rehearsing material for Nothing in 2022, renting a storefront in northeast Los Angeles and jamming throughout the summer. They dubbed the space “The Spiral House,” and spent hours improvising, which gives the album such a free flow, both track to track as an album, but also in the way impromptu moments bubble through the tracks.

Sonically rich, propulsive and full of weird and wild turns with timbres from club music, bass culture and more psychedelic routes too. As we said, it’s a joy to have them back!
