Disques Debs International, ESG, Cujo and Scraping Bubblegum Off My Soul.

The sounds of Guadeloupe, South Bronx big beats, hazy atmospherics and sunny punk sizzlers.

Rejoice for the third time folks, because Strut have headed back to Guadeloupe for another volume of classic cuts from the Disques Debs International vaults. Founded by Henri Debs in the late ‘50s, the French Caribbean label operated for over fifty years, with three hundred singles and a couple of hundred LPs. This third compilation - Mizik Maladi - is focused on the label's global reach through the 1980s, a mixing pot of funk and soul, jazz, electro-pop and traditional tones that shaped modern Caribbean music.

Across both emerging and established artists, the mood is just so focused. Great stuff.

Emerald, Sapphire & Gold on Neon Orange vinyl! Fire Records present special editions today of Keep On Moving, Come Away With and Step Off from the always essential ESG. The dance-punk-funk-clash band exploded out of the South Bronx in 1978, releasing their iconic Come Away with ESG in 1983. The Scroggins sisters re-grouped in 2002 for Step Off and then again in 2006 for the primal and driving Keep on Moving. Utterly timeless and totally inimitable, their influence over the last forty years just keeps growing.

+ All three albums are pressed on limited Neon Orange colour vinyl.

Adventures In Foam is the 1995 debut LP from Brazilian-born Amon Tobin under the name, Cujo. Constructed from murky jazz samples, there is such a timeless quality to this one. Somewhere between breakbeat and triphop, he really is a master of creating a looping headspace and letting it all evolve. This definitive 3LP reissue brings together all the tracks for the first time, offering a comprehensive version of the album after years of various incomplete editions across Ninja Tune and other labels. A proper headspace.

+ Limited White vinyl.

Secret Superstar Sounds is a new compilation from the esteemed heads at Soul Jazz and it is sure adding some spice into this new week for us. ‘Scraping Bubblegum Off My Soul 1977-80’ is a collection of rare new-punk and powerpop sizzlers from the late seventies; sub-three minute pop gems from the DIY scene. Combining punk energy and attitude with the melodic hooks of 1960’s pop, they largely fell between the cracks in the audiences outside of fanzines and the odd spin on John Peel. The whole album has such great energy, and whether you know them or not, get ready to fall for The Squares, The Meanies, The Monitors, Plummet Airline, Tours, Gobblinz, Krypton Tunes and tons more!
