Half a dozen splendid reasons to get the stereo warmed up and spinning business…

Nobody Loves You More is the first full-length album under her own name from cult musician and legit cultural icon, Kim Deal. It is our November Record of the Month and we have been playing it loads, it has such a lush energy. You can read a little more about it here and check out a few videos.

+ We have an exclusive Orange vinyl pressing.

Josh Tillman’s sixth album as Father John Misty is possibly his best; certainly his most ambitious. Mahashmashana is an album of mini epics, balladeering that swoons to hugely cinematic effect, wild-eyed, uptempo sermons and experimental flashes too (Low’s Alan Sparhawk contributing guitars to the brittle and brash noise-scape is thrilling stuff). Reflections on spirituality and glorious one-liners, the production is also just sumptuous.

+ Available on limited Dark Red Marble colour vinyl.

Michael Kiwanuka’s voice is just magnificent. Small Changes is the smoothest he has sounded whilst still full of yearning and dynamism. He also uses his register to the full; with rich, low tones and beautifully controlled higher notes. Working again with all-star producers Danger Mouse and Inflo (following the acclaimed KIWANUKA and Love & Hate albums), it sounds amazing sonically, an album of real soul.

+ Available on limited Green Marble colour vinyl.

Ballads of Harry Houdini is the first new music in six years from one of our most favourite six-string titans, Papa M. This new set follows his all-acoustic ‘A Broke Moon Rises’ album and is a total change up, with experimental guitar techniques and vocal arrangements. Alongside the more spontaneous and hypnotic loops, there are also a few flashes of more straightforward song structure and they are beautifully hard-hitting gems too.

+ Pressed on Peach colour vinyl

Recorded in a single evening, The Way Out Of Easy finds American guitarist and bandleader Jeff Parker covering some quite amazing ground over the four extended pieces. Long time collaborators (ETA IVtet) Anna Butterss on upright bass, Josh Johnson on saxophone, and percussionist Jay Bellerose have such an amazing understanding, the way it all evolves is thrilling. It swings, it bops, it has ambience and it just flows exquisitely.

+ Available on limited double 'Harvest Moon' colour vinyl.

Flanked by his live band, Killer Mike releases the gospel tinged Michael & The Mighty Midnight Revival. Frank, honest and propelled by trap and Memphis rap belters, this one really is a great listen.

+ Available on limited Translucent Tan colour vinyl.

Also this week, The Smashing Pumpkins release the eagerly anticipated new Aghori Mhori Mei that includes an exclusive poster with the LP. We mentioned St. Vincent’s excellent Todos Nacen Gritando (a Spanish language edition of her critically-acclaimed All Born Screaming album) last week, and that is here and shipping as we speak. Black Pumas’ Live from Brooklyn Paramount has arrived on CD, the LP is due shortly.

We also have a very limited number of Adrianne Lenker’s Once A Bunch / Who Can Say 7” single, two tracks that were recorded during the Bright Future sessions. Don’t miss this.

Lastly for today, Dean & Britta - celebrated from their work defining a genre with Galaxie 500 and Luna - join Spacemen 3’s Sonic Boom for… A Christmas album! Nope, we're serious, and it’s lovely. Languorous duets of seasonal songs new and old, this one is very much going on our ‘safe seasonal’ playlist. A Peace Of Us is pressed on Emerald colour vinyl and in very short supply.
