Synth pop, big pop, art rock loops, Country royalty, experimentalism and plenty more new sounds.
Steel City-based trio Pale Blue Eyes return this week with their third LP, New Place. It is a pensive set about big changes and fresh starts, with their propulsive, synth-rich bangers really in full flow. The self-produced songs really shimmer, retaining the dream pop hues of their previous albums whilst upping the stereo magnitude too. Rife for the playlists!
+ Available on limited Transparent Blue Vinyl.
+ LP copies include a signed Drift-exclusive print.
All In The Game is the eagerly-anticipated full debut LP from Moreish Idols and it is a right bloody riot! The five-piece have worked with Speedy Wunderground main man Dan Carey again to produce a dense and rich tapestry of an album. They get jagged, they lock into grooves, it really bubbles and we’ve been playing it loads.
+ Pressed on Orange colour vinyl.
Blood on the Silver Screen is the absolutely ripping, big pop return from Sasami Ashworth as SASAMI. The multi-instrumentalist and producer is so adept, she could pretty much turn her hand to anything (as her previous albums have illustrated) and her pop mode here really flows. Most importantly, she avoids just doing it because she can; these songs have irrepressible drive. Dead good.
+ Available on limited Red vinyl.
+ All CD/LP orders include a woven patch.
A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole is the wildly explorative new LP from Alabaster DePlume and it really does have so much going on. Released again by the amazing, Chicago-based International Anthem Recording Co., he covers such a lot of ground here; from lush instrumentations, spoken word, folk roots and driving grooves on that sax. Really impressive stuff.
+ Available on exclusive "That Was My Garden" colour vinyl.
Foxes in the Snow is the new LP from Country royalty, Jason Isbell. Recorded at Electric Lady Studios in NYC, it’s stripped right back to just guitar and vocal and he sounds pretty fantastic.
+ Available on limited Gold colour vinyl.
I Miss You, I Do is the second LP from Icelandic singer-songwriter Arny Margret. Sonically it is much fuller than her debut, but still focused around her gorgeous voice.
+ Available on exclusive Green colour vinyl.
Oh man, Dinked… What a week! This morning we announced that M(h)aol will return to the big D for the third time with their scorching new Something Soft LP on Merge. A belter, we tell you.
In sooner-based business, we are all diligently tracking the arrival of THREE new editions, with Jim Ghedi, Knats and Melin Melyn all scheduled to land imminently. We’ll be working late shifts to get your pre-orders out to you ASAP.
We also then have a further two Dinked Edition albums in the racks this week and they are both really, really good. Firstly, Cotton Crown is the new LP on Trouble In Mind from “Celtic Jangle boyband” The Tubs. Stacked with jangling riffs and hooky production, but it’s those little dark flashes that really makes this one so enthralling. Got a feeling this is going to get some serious flowers for the boys.
Lastly for this week, Rift is the straight-up stunning debut LP from Clara Mann. We’re long time fans of hers (she blew us away as part of Sea Change 2023) and it was a proper thrill to work with her to produce an equally wondrous Dinked Edition to celebrate. It is an album of fragility, humour and honesty. Smart and simple arrangements and a voice that changes the tone and energy with the most subtle inflection. She is the real deal and this is a hugely impressive record.
CD copies are slightly delayed, more LP copies are due early next week too.
Alongside tracking arrivals, we’ll soon be talking Best New Reissues from; Neil Young, Hank Mobley, Sonic Youth, David Bowie, Arthur Verocai, Tristwch y Fenywod and the mighty Grace Jones.
