Less quantity for a change, but some essential new releases right here.
Hello, Friends.
Our Record of the Week is Mirror II, the return of Brisbane's The Goon Sax and their debut for Matador Records. Their first two albums are some of our most jangling favourites of the last five years and it's great to hear them subtly evolving. They recorded it at Geoff Barrow’s Invada Studios in Bristol with producer John Parish who helped them to bring in all sorts of eclectic tones. Great vibes, great delivery, great riffs, great band.
+ Exclusive White vinyl pressing.
Social Haul is the self-titled debut on Fat Cat from the trio including TRAAMS bassist Leigh Padley. Gritty post-punk with a propulsive bounce. It's a tense and political concept record that sidesteps lecturing. The energy locks you in.
At Pioneer Works is the highly anticipated new album by Tuareg Avant-rock group Les Filles de Illighadad. They have that baked desert sound and the rhythms are so hypnotic here, pretty thrilling experimentalism. The band were founded by Fatou Seidi Ghali who is widely regarded as the first Tuareg woman to play guitar professionally. First or not, she's a badass, and so is this record.
+ VERY limited Clear vinyl pressing.
Agor is the much-anticipated debut album from Lewis Roberts aka Koreless. Agor is the Welsh word for open, and beautifully reflects the producer’s genre-skimming, with influences and tones incorporating dance music, ambient and contemporary classical sounds. Sonically adventurous stuff, highly recommended.
Gondwana Records release a collection of Hania Rani's Music for Film and Theatre. Diverse and imaginative but you can trace her creative voice throughout, she's well good.
+ Very limited Clear vinyl pressing.
The world within our bedrooms is the rich and dreamy debut from trio Drug Store Romeos. The influences are very present, but that's not to say that this one isn't really enjoyable.
+ Limited Indie Edition on double Blue vinyl.
New West Records release Exit Wounds, the new rock and roller from the Jakob Dylan-led The Wallflowers. Limited Purple colour vinyl.
It Won't Always Be Like This is the much-hyped debut LP from the young Irish rock band, Inhaler. We have a limited 'White with Red / Blue' Splatter colour vinyl pressing that looks mighty-impressive.
2013 BRITs Critics' Choice Award winner Tom Odell returns with his fourth album, Monsters. We have a Clear vinyl pressing.
Sonic Cathedral reissue an expanded edition of Sennen's 2005 debut, Widows. The latter-day shoegaze classic, with seven bonus tracks, is pressed on limited, double Clear vinyl and remastered by Simon Scott from Slowdive.
We have three limited sets of 7" singles out today, but all three (The Lovely Eggs Featuring Iggy Pop, Sharon Van Etten and Aldous Harding) sold out on preorder. So this is more of a reminder than anything else to browse that section. There will be a limited 7" single appearing tomorrow that lots of you will be after.
The two Trees Speak colour vinyl reissues we were talking about last week are here. We really like this band.
Lastly today and just announced, our 133rd Dinked Edition is the marvellous new LP from Nolan Potter.
Veering from the whimsical to the wigged out, Music Is Dead is an absolute treat.
