Record of the Week is one we’ve been looking forward to for months, as MERCY is the new full album from absolute bonafide icon John Cale. His seventeenth studio album (not counting live sets, his many soundtracks, collaborations with Terry Riley, Brian Eno, others and the small matter of The Velvet Underground) has such a wonderful ambience; really evocative production that's neither modern or reminiscent of any specific time period. His voice sounds fantastic, he really is an enthralling central point through the album that also features guest appearances and contributions from; Laurel Halo, Weyes Blood, Avey Tare, Panda Bear, Dev Hynes, Sylvan Esso, Actress, Fat White Family and Tony Allen. One to really spend time with, a belter.

Surgery Channel is the new LP from The C.I.A., the collaborative forces of Denée Segall, her husband Ty and Emmett Kelly of The Cairo Gang. Proper dark, it has rich glam energy and an inky sort of electro pop, but with way more menace. Nothing is obvious, it is full of weird routes and smart production, it’s just a grinder and one we’re already going back to quite a bit.

As we mentioned a little earlier in the week, Gigi’s Recovery is the new album from The Murder Capital and it is our January Record of the Month. You can read a little more about it here and get in early for the limited and exclusive Pink colour vinyl pressing.



As we catch up after the various delays of 2022, it’s been a very busy start to the year at Dinked with the new announcements of SBT, Eddie Chacon and Silver Moth. Alongside this, we have FOUR new titles landing and in the racks this week alone. This January bottleneck is relatively exciting, but looking at the schedule, we’re glad to report that the Dinked flow will be calming down again into a more manageable rate as we move towards the early Spring.

But right now, the first of the four is absolutely taking over our lives here at the shop and office. shapes & colors is the new LP from Californian duo Abracadabra. It has such wonky ESG / Tom Tom Club vibes, super-smart pop with really great dub. It’s a proper trip and we’ve been playing it loads, highly recommended indeed.

Keeper Is The Heart is an absolute beauty, the new album on Ba Da Bing from Eva Louise Goodman’s Nighttime project. Such a beautiful voice and the production really floats. Really great drive, a sort of witchy euphoria.

Thy Socialite! Is the high-octane, high-concept, high-prog-pop thriller from Mr Ian Black as SLUG. It is released as the maiden title on a new label formed by Field Music’s Peter and David Brewis. So smart it goes full circle and might actually be mad, but it’s really great fun and a proper listening experience.

Lastly is of course The Murder Capital that was also released as Dinked No. 224. A very fast seller, we ended up with one spare copy that will be online in a minute, otherwise, that one is long sold-out.

Also this week; Fire Records release the excellent self-titled Immaterial Possession album from the Athens, Georgia based band. It has lush acoustics. We have the delayed physical release of Sampa The Great’s belting As Above So Below album, a real trip through experimental RnB. Lobes is the new LP from We Are Scientists, diving further into their more electronic-leaning influences. A very limited Boy Harsher Burn It Down 12” that is released alongside the Halloween Ends Original Soundtrack from John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. The synthscapes of Time's Arrow from Ladytron that we’re really enjoying, great headspaces. And lastly this week, the delightfully analogue-sounding Anne, If from Ghost Woman. A real mellow cracker.

The week’s new-not-new includes; Art Blakey, Bobby Hutcherson, Sun Ra, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Grant Green and the amazing Nigeria 70 compilations.
