El Perro del Mar - FREE LAND

'FREE LAND' is about deconstruction and construction. It’s about resisting giving in. It’s about freedom of creativity and freedom of thought. It’s also an appraisal of the free artist as a well as a reclaiming of creative integrity in an over-commercialised world.

The recording was instigated by El Perro del Mar’s collaboration with the MOMA in Stockholm in early 2020. Although the aim was to perform the piece live at the
museum (which COVID put paid to), the project continued allowing El Perro del Mar to draw inspiration while having complete access to the endless paintings and the sculptures while the museum was shut. The EP includes a collaboration with Devonté Hynes of Blood Orange who lends his vocals to a cover of Black Sabbath’s song 'Changes' ('Alone in halls').

"Corona is definitely a part of this work," says Sarah Assbring, "I was very happy and excited when I got the invitation from Moderna Museet, and my first impulse was to create a kind of homage to the art museum or the artist. A patchwork of voices followed me as I walked alone through the empty rooms. When the museum closed and I wasn’t able to go back, when none of us could go back, the different voices became clearly one. It is from these voices that I created my work."
