Released in a couple of weeks is an EP called "Cassette" on New York's Mexican Summer. This in it's own right as thing to get excited about as you know we dig the Mex roster, but Viet Cong are a band we've been waiting to surface for a very long time. Enjoy below a track called Oxygen Feed from that EP.
Viet Cong is a new project made up of four distinct voices. Matt Flegel and Scott Munro (respective former members of beloved Calgary band Women, and Chad VanGaalen's band) spent much of 2013 in their basement studio with a mess of old and run-down equipment to build a set of fresh material. Joined by bandmates Daniel Christiansen and Michael Wallace, the band completed work on a debut cassette. What emerged from the studio was a mixture of sharply-angled rhythmic workouts and euphoric ‘60s garage pop melodies, balanced with a penchant for drone-y, VU-styled downer moments.
We were huge fans of Women and Viet Cong really chancel all those timbres that made them so special. It's pretty limited so don't snooze too long on this.
We just know that you're going to ask, it is a 12" record... not a cassette....
