Dear friends and patrons of Drift, we have big news.

After a great deal of thought, I have made the decision that we’ve done all the good work we possibly can as Drift Records and we will be closing the business at the end of February. I know this will initially come as sad and uncomfortable news to many of you, but I want to assure you all that this choice was carefully considered and is very much on our terms.

Thriving on the high street in 2026 takes a huge number of skills, knowledge and experience, and through the success we have gained in working collaboratively on Dinked Editions, we have realised that we very much are stronger together…

The really big news is that I will be taking all of the Drift energy and, as Rupert Morrison, I will be joining the amazing team at Resident Music, Brighton. In possibly an industry first, some of the most proactive individuals in indie music retail are combining forces under the Resident name. We have solid and exciting plans to truly offer the best record shopping experience for you all and to champion music culture - from the fringes and grassroots to the biggest and most iconic names.

The Drift Records shop in Totnes and also driftrecords.com will be open as usual until Saturday 28th February and will then close. Not being at all subtle about it, we have a fantastic selection of records for you all to buy, so these are your last chances to come and see us, hear something new, hit the checkout and absorb that counter culture one more time. Also, fear not, Drift will be fulfilling all pre orders through March and the next few months, so please have no anxiety that we’re going to disappear into the night.

All good things must come to an end. We are phenomenally proud of what we achieved with Drift over the last twenty years, but I am ready for a change and really excited about the future. I am sure this next month will have all sorts of bittersweet moments, but for now, this is thank you, and the start of goodbye.
