Our eleventh Record of the Month for 2023 is Cartwheel, the firebrand new LP from Hotline TNT.

The Brooklyn-based band are led by singer-songwriter Will Anderson - who actually recorded the vast majority of the album himself - and on their second LP have continued to find new spaces in crackling shoegaze.

The majority of the album's boisterous tracks hover around the two minute mark, melancholic radio bangers that fizz to life from a blur or warm guitars and snapping drums. There is a sense that each song appears to convey a feeling, then fades back into the ether without overstaying or losing spontaneity. It leaves you wanting ever more.

A real work out for every inch of your speakers, Cartwheel is full of frothing shoegaze, a full stereo of vintage tones and brittle guitars colliding. Although the production is epic and sweeping, it’s the mood that the album creates that leaves the longest impact with its shimmering optimism.
