In the mid-2000s, following Brazilian icons like Marcos Valle, Joyce, and Azymuth, Arthur Verocai was introduced to a new generation through Far Out Recordings. The rediscovery began when label founder Joe Davis stumbled upon Verocai’s 1972 self-titled debut in a dusty Rio record store in the late '80s. Initially panned by critics, the album faded into obscurity—until Joe played it for producers Mark Pritchard and Dave Brinkworth (aka Harmonic 313) in 2004. Dave recalls being instantly blown away by the lush arrangements and genre-defying sound.

Three months later, Dave was in Brazil with Arthur, laying the foundations for Encore. Produced by Brinkworth, the album marked Verocai’s return after more than 35 years, sounding as vital and innovative as ever. With 11 expansive tracks, Encore blends samba-soul, cinematic orchestration, and experimental textures, proving Verocai hadn’t missed a step.

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1945, Verocai launched his professional music career in 1969. Throughout the early '70s, he orchestrated albums for Brazilian greats like Ivan Lins, Jorge Benjor, Elizeth Cardoso, Gal Costa, and Marcos Valle. He also served as musical director for Brazil’s biggest TV network, TV Globo, arranging music for its top shows. His 1972 debut for Continental Records broke convention, fusing Brazilian music with the soulful experimentation of artists like Shuggie Otis and the lush orchestration of Charles Stepney.

With Encore, Verocai’s genius reached a global audience—decades after it was first overlooked.
