Brighton-based, Welsh instrumentalist Gwenifer Raymond returns with Last Night I Heard the Dog Star Bark, her third album and a bold step into the cosmic unknown. Renowned for her intricate fingerpicked guitar style and her self-styled “Welsh Primitive” sound, Raymond fuses occult folk, rural blues, and speculative science fiction into a soundworld that’s both earthy and interstellar.

Where previous work explored haunted landscapes and deep-rooted histories, this new collection looks upward and outward. Inspired by sci-fi literature, mathematical infinities, and mystic oddballs like Tom O’Bedlam and Jack Parsons, the album explores abstract realms with a handmade intensity. Banjo drones shimmer across celestial plains, slide guitars mimic comet trails, and fingerpicked flurries spark with flamenco fire.

Written and recorded alone in her flat, the album channels Raymond’s background in astrophysics and her love of weird fiction into a swirling sonic narrative.
