José Olivio Villatoro who at an impressive 95 years of age, has recently handed management of the Los Capulines farm to his grandson Carlos Eduardo Herrera Villatoro. José still plays an active role though and has the final say on any changes in processing. Of the 47 hectares, 45 are devoted to coffee production with the remaining 2 used to preserve wild forest which provides habitat for a diverse range of animals, plants and insects. Despite the size of the farm it is run by only the family and 3 employees who all live locally. Since Carlos took over management he has pushed for improvements in both production and traceability to ensure a better price for the coffee to prove better for his staff and family.
