Across this issue, almost all of the interviews and features talk about lockdown and pandemics. Although we had every intention of refusing to acknowledge it, that is just not where we’re at in 2020 and we feel that perhaps the best way to counteract the despondency isn’t to just blindly hope for what was, but is perhaps to try and be active in forging whatever is... Next.
Although it feels like the darkest hours we’ve known for live arts, bands, venues and gigs (oh man, gigs, you remember gigs right?), we have taken quite some solace across this edition from the robust and fertile community that pops up throughout. We have all managed to keep in touch and we have all managed to adapt. Records have been dreamed up, recorded, released and ultimately sold in record shops; albeit with more packing, tape and delivery. The wheels have kept spinning and the collective will for that to happen is powerful stuff.
There is doubtless plenty of road left to run through all of this, but as ever, record shops don’t half matter, you know.
