InfoBookMay 2016

Masterminded and edited by notorious music critic Everett True, the book is a must-have for anyone interested in writing about music as well as those provoked by uncritical, uninspiring praise for the same old rock suspects. Among the victims/subjects of the chapters are Radiohead, Flaming Lips, The Doors, The Fall, Kate Bush, The Police, The Smiths and Frank Zappa. Prepare to have your sacred cows slaughtered.

It’s not called Albums to Die Before You Hear for nothing. Here are some of the amazing things about this book:

1. It’s not really a negative book full of angry rants and sour voices. While some bands completely deserve it, we’ve also written about many of our favourites. There’s a lot of love for music in this book. And all contributors are extremely talented! Not talking ’bout myself here ;)

2. Rejected Unknown has made a conscious effort to make the book – and the whole project – a gender-equal space, seeking out non-male writers. At one point, Everett True told us the book wouldn’t happen at all if we didn’t get more female contributions.

3. The whole project was super energising and positive. Some people really went out of their way volunteering their free time to get this done. Other people like me simply contributed and followed everything a bit from a distance, but in the end everyone was writing haiku’s together in the facebook group. It’s been a real group project.
