We will admit to being shamefully late to the ‘Death Is Not The End’ party, but the London-based label (and superb NTS radio show) are firmly in our sites now and we’ll once again put the splendid Begging the Moon: Phleng Thai Sakon & Luk Krung, 1945-1960 compilation under your noses. The set is concerned with an early-to-mid 20th century style of Thai popular song, commonly named Phleng Thai sakon (meaning "song which is both Thai and universal"). Mid 40’s through to early 60’s and such a world to discover, as the jazz tones evolved through folk and other western influences. Really highly recommended.
