As ever, it’s all about the records in the racks.
Hello, Friends.
Record of the Week is The Spur, the sublime new album from Joan Shelley. Recorded in rural Kentucky, the contributors are superb - James Elkington serves as co-producer alongside Shelley, plus collaborations with Bill Callahan, Meg Baird and the British novelist Max Porter along with Shelley’s musical partner and husband Nathan Salsburg. All that said, it's Joan's voice that just knocked us out, she really does sound luscious. A great set, this.
+ Indie LPs are pressed on White colour vinyl.
Aura is the absolutely stunning debut LP from Japanese vocal artist Hatis Noit. She really doesn't sound like anyone, this is such powerful music. It's far from easy going, but if you can get lost in the quite remarkable sonics, there is so much to discover. Hugely impressive.
+ Available as limited Dinked Edition 193
+ Available on limited Clear Vinyl
And Those Who Were Seen Dancing is the long-awaited new album from Toronto-born, London-based artist Tess Parks. More than a decade after her debut (there are three collaborative albums with Brian Jonestown Massacre leader Anton Newcombe in the interim), she sounds glorious, her laconic drawl filling the space. Confident and surprisingly psychedelic in places.
+ Available as limited Dinked Edition 174
+ Available on limited Ultra Clear Vinyl
Arkhon is the new album from Zola Jesus and it's really good. It's her most collaborative release to date with producer Randall Dunn (Sunn O)))) and percussionist Matt Chamberlain both bringing textures and tones to the mix. Enthralling with Zola very much in the middle of it all as the voice, but lots of dark sonic trips. Really one to spend time with.
+ Indie LPs are pressed on ecomix vinyl.
+ The one we photographed on our website will very likely not look like the one you get. Cool.
CLOSURE/CONTINUATION is the eleventh studio album by British prog band Porcupine Tree. It's a bit like listening to a Rubik's Cube. We have limited double White colour vinyl copies and make sure to visit the Drift Instagram page for a chance to win a test pressing this week.
Excess is the high concept, new LP from trio Automatic. Rich, vintage tones across a wide range of genres but where it gets rolling, it's really got something going on.
+ Indie LPs are pressed on Blue colour vinyl.
Sometimes, Forever is the new album from Soccer Mommy and her first for new label Loma Vista Recordings. Really melodic and surprisingly sweet, but still with some stark moments. Quite a grower.
+ Indie LPs are pressed on Semi-Transparent Pink colour vinyl.
Pop trio MUNA release their third LP and it's pretty massive. Released on Phoebe Bridgers' Saddest Factory label (she also guests on a track), it's confident and dazzling without losing the human element. Good stuff.
Hollie Cook returns with Happy Hour, mellow energy and her voice sounds superb. A 2022 take on Lover's Rock.
+ Indie LPs are pressed on Pink and Orange colour vinyl.
Real Estate's Martin Courtney releases his new solo LP Magic Sign on Domino. Vocally he's in chill form, but he kicks out the distortion here and it really goes somewhere. Great stuff and available on limited Opaque Violet colour vinyl too!
Also this week; Madness is the synth-heavy new LP from Minneapolis-based POLIÇA (includes a limited Yellow vinyl pressing). Created in collaboration with Chelsea Wolfe, Bloodmoon: I is the tenth studio album by American metalcore band Converge. Brian Jonestown Massacre release their 19th studio album Fire Doesn’t Grow On Trees. We also have a very limited 10" single of album lead track The Real. Baby is the tense and driving third LP from the excellent Petrol Girls and we have limited Baby Pink or Baby Orange colour vinyl editions.
Not just Hatis and Tess for Dinked this week, we also have been shipping Just Mustard's superb Heart Under LP (No.178). We're going to stick just a few of each in stock now. Yay!
Reissues this week include; Alexisonfire, Charles Lloyd, MBV, New Life Trio and The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band (which we've been hammering already).
TV Priest played in the shop last night and were 'mazin'. They kindly signed albums too, get involved.
