Record of the Week is beautiful. There is something really special about Angelo De Augustine's Swim Inside The Moon that, delicate as it is, makes it stand out in a week of big, bold and brilliant new releases.
It's released on Sufjan Stevens's Asthmatic Kitty label and there is a whispering, hazy Sufjan shaped shadow over proceedings. The songs are really smart in their structure, but the delivery and arrangement are so brilliantly uncluttered, it was predominantly recorded in his bathroom after all. You can stick any number of 'sounds like...' badges on it (Elliott Smith, Karen Dalton, Nick Drake, Vashti Bunyan) and it still has it's own merits and own charm. A really special album, very highly recommended.
+ Special first pressing on bone-colour vinyl with Download.
