Record of the Week is God’s Favorite Customer, Josh Tillman's fourth album as Father John Misty. It's not as gushy as Honeybear and not as decadent as Pure Comedy, it's all very tight in its delivery and is certainly not afraid to introduce the big pop hooks.
He is always a fascinating voice, eloquent and funny and he is more humble and perhaps direct on this album than before. The production is lush, a little bit like late-period John Lennon. It was produced with Jonathan Rado, Dave Cerminara, and Trevor Spencer and features contributions from Haxan Cloak, Natalie Merring of Weyes Blood and longtime collaborator Jonathan Wilson. Amongst all of the circus that always surrounds him it's easy to forget that he is both a brilliant songwriter and performer, he's in full flight here.
