Did you hear the one about the week when everything came out all at once?

Hello, Friends.

Tomorow's #newmusicfriday is outrageous. We've tried to keep this brief, so have a browse and hit the Drift site for a playlist and a lot of exclusive editions.

Light up the Brainfeeder siren! Mood Valiant is the new LP from Australian Jazz-Funk band Hiatus Kaiyote. A six-year journey with big life trauma has formed such a rich sound (including legendary Brazilian composer/arranger Arthur Verocai), funk and soul tones that weave in and out of one-another. Really good vibes.

Ripley Johnson (of Wooden Shjips and Moon Duo) returns under his Rose City Band moniker for some real-chill Country vibes with Earth Trip. In a week of huge noises, it would be easy to miss out on the guy quietly going about his pastoral business, so don't! It's another real gem.

Boy From Michigan sees John Grant return on Bella Union in really glorious, swooning and strikingly honest form. His voice is positively transcendental, a rich and mesmerising flow. The production from his longtime friend Cate Le Bon is also impeccable.

+ Buy a copy now to go into the prize draw for a lush, signed, test-pressing.

I Know I'm Funny haha is the new LP from Faye Webster. Her voice sounds amazing. A combination of heartbreak-country and big AM-radio vibes, it's confident and really lush with lots of honesty. This is really good.

 LoneLady

Next, a volley of FOUR killer new albums, all released under the Dinked Edition banner.

National treasure Lonelady, releases Former Things on Warp. The sonics were entirely crafted during her time spent in Somerset House Studio's Rifle Range, an 18th century shooting range that has now been adapted into an experimental performance space. Propulsive and full of delicious sounds.

Lucy Gooch's music is a beautiful ethereal fog; like hearing echos of Kate Bush on a fading tape loop, masked by the vibrations and hums of everyday life. The Rain’s Break EP really is special stuff indeed and she is one to keep both eyes - and ears - on for the future.

American singer-songwriter M.C. Taylor returns on Merge as Hiss Golden Messenger with the brilliantly-inaccurately titled Quietly Blowing It. He really isn't. It's another collection that shows off the depth and soul of his voice and the understanding and flow of his band.

Bliss Land is the new LP from Brighton-born artist Hattie Cooke, her third album and debut release for Castles In Space. Super-lush and densely textured electronic music.

If you visit the Dinked page on our site, we have a very few copies online now.

Drift Counter

To Enjoy is the Only Thing is the debut LP from Maple Glider, Naarm/Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Tori Zietsch. We spoke to her in the new issue of Deluxe and she's really cool. Her album is excellent and she has a delicious voice. It is out this week on CD/LP and a reminder that the Dinked Edition is released in three weeks.

Daniel Avery releases Together In Static, a beautiful and stirring new electronic set that acts as a love-letter to how much we've all missed group experience. The album is comprised of music that was created for a Covid-safe live show at London’s Hackney Church on May 29. A real trip.

Brooklyn-born-and-based experimentalist and multi-instrumentalist Taja Cheek returns on Mexican Summer as L’Rain with Fatigue. Funk shapes that wooze in and out of focus, it's got such a good vibe, this.

Planet (i) is a full-bodied and rich follow up to Squirrel Flower's lush 2020 debut. DIY vibes with pop flashes and her vocals are really commanding. The atmosphere is dark, but she sounds superb.

Home Video is the third studio LP from Lucy Dacus and she has really gone there with an honest, unflinching and really personal set. Euphoric rises against her melancholy-drenched voice. Much like her Boygenius bandmate Phoebe Bridgers' breakout Punisher LP, this one is going to travel far.

Death of a Cheerleader is the City Slang debut from Pom Pom Squad, the Brooklyn-based four-piece led by the powerhouse Mia Berrin. Weirdo grunge vibes with some absolutely brilliant production tones. This really is full of your ear-worms.

Lucy Dacus Home Video

The Mountain Goats return with Dark in Here, a new double album set of melodic whimsy. Town’s Dead is the much hyped full-debut from Irish rapper KojaqueOtzeki's Now Is A Long Time has now landed on vinyl, really lush electronic atmospherics. Loraine James returns with the dark and excellent Reflection on Hyperdub.

Drag City unearth Birds of Maya's Valdez (recorded in 2014), an absolute ripper of ever-morphing rock and roll jams. Kid Millions & Jan St. Werner collaborate on Imperium Droop, with nods to minimal, free jazz and radio-phonics. Such good vibes, the sleeve is also delicious. Jack Savoretti returns with Europiana, featuring Nile Rodgers on lead single Who's Hurting Who. Spellling (Tia Cabral) releases The Turning Wheel on Sacred Bones Records, dark and really lush synth-pop. Lightning Bug release A Color of the Sky,  their third LP, out this week on Fat Possum. Bit of jangle, bit of melancholy, we really like this. Caroline Shaw collaborates with  Percussion on the quite stunning Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part... Warmth and fragility. Modern Mississippi bluesman Cedric Burnside releases I Be Trying via Single Lock Records. CD is here, LP in a few weeks, we'll talk more about it then as it's right up our street.

John Carroll Kirby returns with Septet, a live instrumental album and it's absolutely lush. It's really blown our lids, but we have temporarily sold out... So remember these flames we are fanning next week, okay?

Eli Keszler's excellent (and very limited) Icons is due to land tomorrow and worth checking.

And lastly today for the newies, Rough Trade release the Skydiving Onto The Library Roof / Everything For Everyone 12" from caroline... You know how much we like these guys.

Much not-new to cover tomorrow with; Sharon Van Etten, Rico, PJ Harvey, Sun Ra, Eccentric Disco, Cold Wave #2, My Morning Jacket and more.

You may have noticed that we didn't pick a #ROTW yet. Well, we're all going to decide tomorrow and shout about it on THE INTERNET.

Soak it up.
