Best New Reissues

Best New Reissues: Yusef Lateef, Numero’s Eccentric Soul, Blue Mitchell, Joe Lovano and Knxwledge.

Jazz with real feeling and plenty of Eccentric Soul.

Guys, we have the perfect way to start the week. As light as air is Eastern Sounds, the totally sublime 1962 LP from Yusef Lateef. It’s a pairing of hard bop drive with winding and esoteric lead lines. It’s just got the best energy, a real essential.

This new edition of the album is released as part of the Original Jazz Classics Series and is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI with all-analogue mastering from the original tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and presented in a Tip-On Jacket. US Import.

We have a double from under the Numero Eccentric Soul series and they really have it going on.

Firstly, The Shoestring Label were based out of Mississippi and had a real thing for ‘cosmic disco’. We didn’t recognise a name but loved every one! Pressed on exclusive Jimmie Green Color Vinyl. We also have a deep dive into Kansas City’s Forte Records, with singles running between 1967-1980 and covering pretty much every iteration of popular Black music. Photos, ephemera, and essay, it’s a really nice package.
Numero Group
We did have a 50th Anniversary Edition of Paul McCartney & Wings’ Band On the Run, but it has proved as popular as ever and is currently out of stock. We’ll try and cop some more of the LP format as it was half speed mastered and did sound rather nice. Keep an eye on the website.

Blue Note press a fresh edition of Trumpeter Blue Mitchell’s Down With It! The sleeve art is a bit of a classic so you’ll likely recognise that, but the album really does have such a lush swinging vibe going on and is well worth checking out. Also on Blue Note we have saxophonist Joe Lovano’s 1997 Trio Fascination LP, with bassist Dave Holland and drummer Elvin Jones. Pretty serious stuff.

Both titles are released as part of the Tone Poet Vinyl series and were produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.

Lastly today, Stones Throw repress Knxwledge’s excellent 1988 LP. A murky and textured album of underground hip hop. It rolls like snippets of dreams, a proper hazy vibe. This pressign is on limited Orchid / Black colour vinyl.

Okay, lots of boxes turning up at the door and lots of great emails in the inbox, so we’ll be right back to tell you more about the week!
