Drift Sunday Digest: 21st March 2021

Drift Sunday Digest: 21st March 2021

Big vibrations, full shops, excellent sessions and more newspaper.

Hello, Friends.

To celebrate the release of last month's Monolithic Undertow: In Search of Sonic Oblivion - we asked Harry Sword to reflect on formative record shopping in Cambridge for the new issue of Deluxe. He wrote about 'Cambridge Daze...' and other good vibrations. You can read the article in full now on the Deluxe website.

"Cambridge is a city that retains a sense of mystery: you can live here for years and never quite get under the skin."

AH YEAH!!!!! This week's date for your diary is 4th September and LRSII. It has been announced that the Love Record Stores campaign is returning for a second year in September after 2020's hugely successful event. We'll be stocking all sorts of treasures on the day and celebrating shop culture with guests. We're working hard to make it a big-time hang-out that's well worth the wait!

We're also really hyped that Georgia has been appointed as this year’s Love Record Stores ambassador, a proper shop head if ever we've met one. To celebrate we've re-published our 2015 Deluxe interview where she talked in depth about her shopping CV.

Following last year's forced cancelation, Austin Texas' iconic SXSW festival was this year again unable to cram full every street, bar, motel and watering hole in the city with showcases and off-radar gigs. With sufficient warning however, the event has been running a pretty impressive online model these last few days with some genuinely exciting live sessions and exclusives.

The one that has really caught our attention is The British Music Embassy, with unbelievably good sets from Squid, Chubby and The Gang, Anna B Savage, Sinead O’Brien, Katy J Pearson, Penelope Isles, Do Nothing, Black Country, New Road, Virginia Wing and Yard Act amongst many more. Visit www.thebritishmusicembassy.com to find out more about the performers.

The sessions remain exclusive to the SXSW site for now, but DIY magazine have just reported that a selection of performances will made available online on SXSW’s YouTube channel after Easter. Do check them out.
