Nancy Sinatra, Glasshouse Red Spider Mite, IDLES, Young Fathers and Karly Hartzman & MJ Lenderman.

Records of the Week

Nancy Sinatra, Glasshouse Red Spider Mite, IDLES, Young Fathers and Karly Hartzman & MJ Lenderman.

A belting Nancy reissue, a red hot debut and the last new releases of 2025.

We start this week in 1969 with Nancy Sinatra’s Nancy album, her first album after the furtive and hugely industrious four-year period of albums in collaboration with Lee Hazlewood. Working with her longtime arranger Billy Strange at the production desk and with young songwriter (future superstar and Elvis collaborator no less) Mac Davis, it is a transitional album that redefined her sound into funkier waters. Absolutely flaming takes on Long Time Woman and Light My Fire, plus country soul sizzle on Son of a Preacher Man. Really great stuff.

• Pressed on 'My Mother's Blue Eyes' colour vinyl.
• All formats include a new Q&A with Nancy & GRAMMY®-nominated co-producer Hunter Lea plus never-before-seen photos from Nancy Sinatra’s personal archive.
• Features audio freshly remastered from the original analogue tapes by GRAMMY®-nominated engineer John Baldwin.
• Includes a bonus flexi featuring the previously unreleased track Long Time Woman (Early Alternate Version).

It all got us in a very Nancy mood, so do check out essential restocks from her esteemed vaults.

Now it did sell out phenomenally fast, but we do still want to direct your attention to Glasshouse Red Spider Mite and their debut EP What Do You Mean The Monster?… Hahaha. We were delighted to work with the band and Memorials of Distinction to create an exclusive Dinked Early Doors first vinyl pressing. Knotty and fugged out music with a pastoral energy, ones to watch.

Not one, but two new soundtracks for you. Firstly, the inimitable IDLES were hand-picked by director Darren Aronofsky to shape the sonic identity for his film, Caught Stealing. Tense and frenetic drums, with distorted guitars creating all the possible anxiety. It hits hard.

+ Pressed on limited White vinyl.

Similarly but differently, Young Fathers’ score for 28 Years Later is raw and primal stuff, with big emotional energy. Lots of abrasive textures again, and the way that the percussion and other pounding noises echo screams and shots… It's atmospheric and strangely euphoric stuff.

Lastly then, Karly Hartzman (Wednesday founder and songwriter) and acclaimed singer-songwriter guitarist MJ Lenderman took to Third Man’s Blue Room for a special live show. Performing music from both the Wednesday catalogue as well as Lenderman’s own evolving solo body of work, it’s a fine way to mark their respective ascensions through the last couple of years.

And that is that. 2025 done with a few days to spare. Thanks for reading our various new and not-new dispatches this year, January looks set to start robustly with some big releases and a lot of exciting new announcements. We’ll recharge and return to some sort of normal service in a few weeks.
