Record of the Week here at Drift is The Ballad of Darren - naturally - the new and highly-anticipated tenth LP from blur. ‘Naturally’ we say as we’ve been firm fans and admirers for longer than we can remember and this one was always going to be a big one here. Fan or not, it’s really good. They sound invigorated, bright, like older versions of themselves and very much playing to their strengths. It’s funny, quite cutting, honest and full of the kind of riffs and production oddities that have always made them stand out. When it soars, it really soars!

Brooklyn-based Max Clarke returns with his third album under the tricky-to-google nom de plume Cut Worms this week on Jagjaguwar. It really is all good vibes. A shimmering set of exuberant pop songs with plenty of summer breeze and well balanced vintage stylings. The self-titled album has little gestures to country (especially album opener ‘Don’t Fade Out’ with guest appearances from Brian and Michael D’Addario of The Lemon Twigs).

Miss Tiny is a brand-new project from acclaimed record producer and Speedy Wunderground label founder Dan Carey with Ben Romans-Hopcraft of Warmduscher / Insecure Men / Childhood. The DEN7 (released on said, impeccable Speedy Wunderground) is a loose and crunching EP of grooving slacker rock. Quite hypnotic stuff.
Mysterious underground rock-and-beyond shapeshifters The Holy Family return on Rocket Recordings with their second album, Go Zero. The supergroup really rattle through a dark and driving sort of psychedelia, tightly wound rhythmics. It’s pretty gripping stuff.

Grammy award-winner and "flat picker extraordinaire" Molly Tuttle and her band return with the luscious new City of Gold LP. A modern take on very old Country with humour and some dirty words too!

Heavy-hitters Kode9 & Burial have collaborated on the fabric Originals label for the limited Infirmary / Unknown Summer 12”. Well, it’s actually one track each on a split, but I am sure they are mates.
