Radical Romantics is the third full-length solo release for The Knife's Karin Dreijer as Fever Ray. The production is fantastic, like, absolutely wild! It moves from glacial and almost ambient, to pounding and euphoric, with contributions from their brother Olof, Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and Vessel. Sonically it has more Knife-y qualities than anything else Karin has released under their own name, but Radical Romantics is very much a solo project and Karin is very much the centrepoint. It feels like it changes each time you listen to it, it’s both ambitious and accomplished and we’ve been playing it a lot. Record of the Week.

Jacked up, wound up and right on point; Nottingham’s dynamic duo - Sleaford Mods - return on Rough Trade with their new UK Grim album. It’s the most dancefloor ready set they have released, but as the title alludes, it’s a seething assessment of a country entirely devoid of morals. They do a fantastic job of ranting and rousing without necessarily lecturing. Florence Shaw (of Dry Cleaning) adds a fantastic guest vocal and Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro (of Jane's Addiction) appear on the late album highlight So Trendy. It’s hardly easy going, but it’s not without its humour.

This Friday marks the release of H.Hawkline’s beautiful new Milk For Flowers album. It’s our Record of the Month and you can read all about it here.

Compact Trauma is the first new LP from Ulrika Spacek in five years and it’s great! A really smokey energy, ambitious and complicated instrumentation and production, but all brought together into a sonic fug that crackles and pops. It’s really quite a thrill in that way. Another fantastic album from a fantastic band.

True Entertainment is the highly-anticipated sixth LP from Manchester electro art rock four-piece Dutch Uncles. The production is ultra high gloss, full of 1980’s prosperity without sounding dated or hackneyed. Duncan Wallis’ vocals are just electric. Good stuff.

Lichen Slow is the new project between Scottish songwriter Malcolm Middleton and Manchester producer Joel Harries. Their collaborative debut Rest Lurks (on Rock Action) is really focused, knotty songs with dense and hazy layers. Great production and simply terrible language, naturally!

Tuareg rock and roller Mdou Moctar releases two EP’s this week on Matador with Niger EP Vol. 1 and Niger EP Vol. 2. Free-flowing wedding jams and crunking drum machine epics, these are endorphin-drenched tracks to get you moving.

Stacked with big pop production, Love As Projection is the return of New York-based Frankie Rose. It has loads of great drive, low key beats and thick synthy production. Really lush.

Huw Bunford, Cian Ciarán, Dafydd Ieuan and Guto Pryce of Super Furry Animals return as Das Koolies with The Condemned EP, a set of high energy bangers inspired by illegal rave roots. Sold a couple off the stereo already so we’ll try and get more of this!

Mind Maze is, a-mazingly, Trees Speak’s fifth album to be released on Soul Jazz Records in the space of little over two years. On this latest set they successfully retain both the European Moteriks and NYC angular riffs, whilst bringing in more of a cosmic edge. Prolific and inventive, they are a great band and still remain mostly a mystery!

Also this week; Van the man Morrison has gone back to his roots on Moving on Skiffle, Speedy Wunderground release the white hot new single from Leeds indie heavyweights English Teacher, and Nia Archives releases the pounding Sunrise Bang Ur Head Against Tha Wall EP.

Lastly for you today, Iconic American musician Lonnie Holley releases Oh Me Oh My on Jagjaguwar. It is another of this week’s immaculately produced albums, with guest appearances from Michael Stipe, Bon Iver, Sharon Van Etten and Moor Mother, but nothing is as captivating as his voice right in the middle of the sonic swirls. The pacing is pretty special, it feels very much like his contributors are just thrilled to be sharing the studio air with him. Really highly recommended.
