Best New Reissues

Best New Reissues: Arthur Russell, Metronomy, Killer Mike, Engineers and John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman.

Easing into the week with all of the Best New Reissues.

Hello, Friends.

Rejoice! It is an Arthur Russell double this week at Drift, with fresh 2022 editions of the seminal Calling Out Of Context and quite extraordinary Instrumentals albums. I read a fantastic quote once that everyone will 'one day find Arthur Russell and fall madly for his music, it just has to be the perfect time'. Folks, it could be this week for you! Equally expressive and equally thrilling, he remains a peerless sonic experimentalist and we can't and won't stop raving about this beautiful music.

Just a few weeks after we went to see the band over in Torquay would you believe it, we are delighted to take stock of Metronomy's all-time banging The English Riviera album as Instrumentals! An old friend sounding like never before with all the instrumentals from Metronomy's iconic ode to the South West. We were very proud to release it as a Dinked Edition and have made our last few copies available now;

+ Dinked Edition 131
+ Cream Coloured Vinyl
+ Numbered Sleeve
+ 25cm Square sticker sheet
+ Additional 25cm Square sticker sheet
+ A6 Postcard (with Lee O'Connor's Tea Towel art)

Metronomy - The English Riviera [Instrumentals]

Back on wax for the first time in years, R.A.P. Music is the fifth studio album by rapper Killer Mike. Production was handled by rapper and producer Jamie "El-P" Meline, in effect becoming the first collaboration between Killer Mike and El-P who would form the critically acclaimed Run the Jewels. His vocals are just so good. Love this.

After quite a wait, we finally have the absolutely lush self-titled 1963 collaboration on Impulse! from John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman. Really elegant interweaving and the rhythm section is pure fire from McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones. Released as part of the Verve Acoustic Sounds Series, so you know that this sounds minty fresh.

Music On Vinyl press a much-in-demand edition of the self-titled debut studio album from shoegazers Engineers. Limited vinyl.

More of the Clouds Hill Mars Volta reissues this week with Octahedron (on Transparent Red and Transparent Yellow colour vinyl). We also have Noctourniquet (on Transparent Blue & Purple colour vinyl), did we mention that already?

Rough Trade release a deluxe edition of Amyl & The Sniffers excellent Comfort To Me LP on double clear smoke colour vinyl. This expanded edition features a bonus live LP recorded on a dock outside of Melbourne, a fold-out poster and new artwork by graphic designer Bráulio Amado.

Also repressed this week is the much-hyped debut LP from Yard Act, with The Overload back on that Limited Transparent Green colour vinyl. Out of press since that hard fought chart battle (then hit No.2 on the big charts!).
