Not-New Records of the Week: Charlottefield, Lucy Gooch, Jackie McLean, Jamiroquai, Don Cherry, Al Green and The White Stripes.

Not-New Records of the Week: Charlottefield, Lucy Gooch, Jackie McLean, Jamiroquai, Don Cherry, Al Green and The White Stripes.

New week. Not-new releases. Plenty to dig into.

Hello, Friends.

Fire Records start us off this week with an expanded reissue of Lucy Gooch's Rushing EP. She really is an extraordinarily skilled music maker, there is such subtly to what she does. Flowing music, this really is essential stuff and it's revisited with new artwork and a brand new track.

Blue Note reissue Jackie McLean's hard boppin' Destination…Out! Really wild, this one. Featuring Grachan Moncur III on trombone, Bobby Hutcherson on vibraphone, Larry Ridley on bass, and Roy Hayes on drums. It's another of the all-analogue editions, sounds pretty incredible.

Also on Blue Note, also all-analogue, also incredible sounding and also pretty iconic is Don Cherry's Where is Brooklyn? One of his earlier albums as bandleader, the session features Pharoah Sanders on tenor saxophone and piccolo, Henry Grimes on bass, and Ed Blackwell on drums.

Two very different directions and two amazing headspaces under the Blue Note banner.

Al Green

Fat Possum reissue the all-time essential Al Green Greatest Hits this week on a limited white vinyl pressing. We didn't know how many we could get hold of, so we didn't shout, but now we are, shouting... AL GREEN, GUYS!!!!

Wrong Speed Records release Rose Of England [live in Nottingham, December 1st, 2007], a slamming live set from post-hardcore outfit Charlottefield.

This week also sees the 25th Anniversary Edition reissue of Jamiroquai's chart-smashing Travelling Without Moving. Pressed on limited double 'Ferrari badge yellow' colour vinyl.

Lastly today, a trio of late-period reissues from Detroit's finest, The White Stripes. Third Man '22 pressings of Get Behind Me SatanIcky Thump and the iconic Elephant. They were good!
