Hot stuff coming through, plus plenty of other routes in less sunny music…

Okay, so we have a right summer-vibe banger for you. Still Willing is the Bella Union debut from Amsterdam’s Personal Trainer and it is such a gorgeous one. It is very pop sensitive, full of swooning highs and sweet pensive lows, somewhere between crunching indie rock and lo-fi electro pop. We worked with Bella Union and the band to produce a Dinked Edition (we just put the last few online!) so have been enjoying this one for quite a while now. It’s our Record of the Week and we have been really blasting it in the shop.

Curated by revered East African DJ Kampire, A Dancefloor in Ndola is an absolutely scorching new compilation on Strut that covers her experiences and highlights various African music styles from the ‘70s and ‘80s to the present day. Although born in Kenya to Ugandan parents, Kampire spent her formative years in Ndola, Zambia and this addictive and uplifting compilation is inspired by artists and songs that formed part of her soundtrack during that time.

Guys. This is so good!

Grim Iconic... (sadistic mantra) is the Sub Pop debut from J.R.C.G. and it’s really compelling stuff. The production is dense, with plenty of plumbing beats and distressed industrial-ish tones, but there are also plenty of sunny little gestures too. It all creates a hypnotic and mysterious swirl around his (Justin R. Cruz Gallego) vocals. Really one to check out.

Chicago-based quintet Brigitte Calls Me Baby release The Future Is Our Way this week on ATO. Big, radio friendly guitar pop songs with a flash of something else in the lyrics and the odd off-kilter moment.

The Reds, Pinks & Purples’ Still Clouds At Noon, formally only available digitally, has received a limited White vinyl pressing this week via Tough Love. He was supposed to be selling them live at our gig, and that coupled with his trademark sunny melancholia has put us in a very funny mood. We keep playing it. As ever, great songwriter.

We also have Pixey’s Million Dollar Baby LP (again, we have just made our last few Dinked Editions available now) and the highly-anticipated self-titled 86TVs album.

Lastly, as you well know, Jack White releases his new No Name LP tomorrow and we will have a wedge of them on the counter at 10am. In the shop only, do come and see us. First come first served. Don’t give us no trouble! We actually have another release that will be in the shop tomorrow morning too. You don’t know about it yet, we can’t tell you about it yet. It’s pretty exciting.

So that’s two good reasons to come and see us on Friday morning.
