Preorder Rundown: Week 23

Preorder Rundown: Week 23

Faces new; faces familiar and the Dark Lord, of course.

My oh my, this week's list has some seriously great sounds to get stuck into. From black to white and all the colours in-between, we have well and truly got your back.

Tim Burgess
Typical Music
Bella Union

Songwriter, Charlatan, author and recent Sea Change headliner Tim Burgess returns with his fifth solo record and Dinked debut, Typical Music. The gargantuan 22-track double LP is a blockbuster set of songs that are as expansive and diverse as they are rich, and as fun as they are funky. We still have a few Dinked copies left, so be quick.

Jack White
Entering Heaven Alive
Third Man Records

Talking of fifth solo records - and prolific songwriters - Jack White is back just months after his fourth. Entering Heaven Alive is much more stripped-back and DIY, focusing on acoustic guitar and deep, relatable motifs that reveals White at his most affecting and contemplative.

The Black Angels
Wilderness of Mirrors
Partisan Records

Austin psych-rock explorers The Black Angels return in fine form with Wilderness of Mirrors, a melting pot of their unmistakable fuzzed-out guitars, intriguing sounds and textures, as well as some acoustic guitar-driven newfound experiments.

A.A. Williams
As The Moon Rests
Bella Union

A.A. Williams follows up from 2020's Forever Blue with aplomb. Exploring an expansive dynamic range, creating a vast space of heavy-softness from inmost vocals, distorted guitars and a fully-fledged string ensemble.

Ruby Goon
Brand New Power
Phantasy Sound

Phantasy Sounds’ latest signing, Ruby Goon unexpectedly emerges from a previously bustling underground of live music in Moscow. Seriously lush outsider-pop full of cradling songs that aren’t afraid to get a bit weird and wonky. Really cool.

The Lord
Forest Nocturne
Southern Lord

The master of shadows and of phantoms, foul in wisdom, cruel in strength, misshaping what he touched and twisting what he ruled, The Lord of the Drones; his dominion was torment… Forest Nocturne is the very first solo album from Greg Anderson aka The Lord (Engine Kid, sunn O))), Goatsnake and Southern Lord Recordings curator). Eight songs of dark heavy cinematic inspired darkness. Honestly, we are so fkn’ hyped for it.

Kuedo
Infinite Window
Brainfeeder

A proper Brainfeeder treat here from Berlin based avant-gardist Kuedo. Fresh off the back of collaborating with Flying Lotus for the Blade Runner: Black Out 2022 soundtrack, Infinite Window sees him effortlessly treading the tightrope between electronica, classical and pop with Vangelis-esque futuristic melodies with thunderous drum programming.

Pixies
Doggerel
BMG

A band that needs no introduction. Pixies return with their eighth studio album Doggerel, a mature yet visceral record of gruesome folk, ballroom pop and brutalist rock.

In other BIG news, Blue Note and Decca have announced the second instalment of Re:imagined II - Another huge offering featuring a star-studded list of the finest contemporary jazz musicians.
