Our new Record of the Week is Burning It Feels Like, the debut LP from North-East London singer, songwriter and producer Fran Lobo. Regulars will know that Fran joined us at Sea Change back in May of last year and we’ve been excitedly waiting for this one to drop since. Self written and produced (with Andy Ramsay of Stereolab engineering and mixed by studio partner Jimmy Robertson), it is a sonic treat with so many different styles and drives all coherently wound together. From dreamlike to hot and heavy, it is such a visceral album. Her voice is amazing, assured and seductive but with plenty of vulnerability too. Dense and rich, this is one to really get lost in.
Dear lord, they're back! OSEES return with Intercepted Message, “A pop record for tired times.” John Dwyer has jacked up the synths and it’s a proper riot, a suicide-esque trip with all the darkness and pop crackle you might expect. From the first beat to the last, they are locked in and this one is gonna get the blood pumping. They never miss, but this one is particularly good fun.

Disappearing Coin is the new LP from Oakland songwriter Stephen Steinbrink and it really is a beauty. He has such a distinct vocal and the dreamy haze here is rich and sumptuous. It is a really pensive collection but there is no idle melancholy, it’s a spiritual uplifter for sure.
Next, proper ones to watch with phantasea pharm, the debut 4AD EP from New York City four-piece cumgirl8 (aka cg8). Hard hitting synths with just enough pop sensibility to balance out the weird and wild jerks of direction. They are starting a revolution.

Lastly for this week’s new release round up we go back to Brooklyn 2011 for an absolutely incredible live show from Sonic Youth. Performed and recorded on August 12, 2011 as the band played their final US show on an outdoor stage overlooking the East River at the Williamsburg Waterfront. Eighty plus minutes and thirty plus years; a proper trip through everything that made them such an incredible prospect, with deep cuts and obscurities from their entire career whisked up into an epic cacophony. Incendiary like no others.
