Records of the Week: Upupayāma, The Bug Club, Saint Jude, TSHA, Tim Bernardes and Andy Bell.

Getting back in the record shop saddle with a vibrant set of brand-new releases for you.

Hello, Friends.

Our last Record of the Week for November is The Golden Pond, a beautiful and hypnotic new album from Upupayāma. The band is - in fact - a psychedelic, one-man project of the Parma-based Alessio Ferrari, an Italian multi-instrumentalist and channeller of great energy. Based in both Eastern and Western folk traditions, he brings in a world of instruments and textures to hugely evocative effect; think long-lost library psychedelia. Lush.

+ Available on exclusive Solid White and Transparent Green colour vinyl.

Green Dream in F# is the stonkin’ new album from Welsh trio The Bug Club. Man, we love this band! We had them come visit us in town recently and can testify to their full rock ‘n’ roll power. It’s so rare for young bands to genuinely add to the broader rock offering, but these guys really do, think Modern Lovers with a healthy dose of Welsh weird-pop. It’s all such perfect radio rockin’ gold.

+ Pressed on Transparent Green colour vinyl.

The Bug Club - Green Dream in F#

Signal is the debut LP from London-based Jude Woodhead AKA Saint Jude. A really great voice right in the middle of it (with guest appearances from Drug Store Romeos’ Sarah Downie, Halina, Louis Culture, and Trimm) it’s a fascinating one, although dynamic and coherent, it very clearly is drawn from a wide range of influences that include; hip-hop, electronica, garage and even gospel. Raw, honest and really engaging.

+ Available as a very limited Dinked Edition.

Also available under the Dinked sticker is Capricorn Sun, the fantastic album from producer TSHA. Taking tones and cues from a wide pool of dance music, this one is so euphoric, it’s dancefloor-primed without losing any of the nuance of the fade-ins and ‘outs that link it all together.

+ Available as a very limited Dinked Edition.

Worth flagging that we also have a last few Dinked Edition copies of Turnover’s new Myself In The Way LP.

Mil Coisas Invisíveis is the flowing new set from São Paulo songwriter Tim Bernardes. It has a real lightness to it, the songs are really beautifully built and his voice is sublime, it all has a tropical hush to it.

+ Available on limited White colour vinyl.

+ LP’s include a signed print.

Ride's Andy Bell releases three new solo 10” EPs this week on Sonic Cathedral, celebrating this year’s Flicker album. I Am a Strange Loop EP features remixes by David Holmes, Richard Norris, A Place to Bury Strangers, Maps, and Claude Cooper. The Grounding Process EP features acoustic versions of five Flicker songs and Untitled Film Stills features covers of songs by Yoko Ono ("Listen, The Snow Is Falling"), The Kinks ("The Way Love Used To Be"), Arthur Russell ("Our Last Night Together") and Pentangle ("Light Flight").

Also this week, Pure Misery is the debut EP from the Glasgow-based Humour. Released on the So Young label and getting lots of attention. Chicago 2021 is the second release in My Morning Jacket’s MMJ Live series. They are in scorching form, it has to be said! This Is What I Mean is the third studio LP from the cultural behemoth that is Stormzy. We have an exclusive pressing on Crystal Clear colour vinyl.

Lastly this week, Eddie Piller & Dean Rudland have combined collections for a really great ‘Acid Jazz [Not Jazz]’ compilation on the Acid Jazz label. All the club cuts that launched Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai and a global scene!

A great collection of reissues this week too, with jazz from Andrew Hill, Grachan Moncur III, Roy Brooks and Charles Lloyd. Also Joey Bada$$, Reef, Bright Eyes, Al Green and the most stunning Gavin Bryers. We’ll be in touch to tell you more!
