Records of the Week

The Saints, Sunn O))), Sharp Pins, Jim Legxacy, Quatermass III, OSEES, Ditz and Daisy Rickman.

It’s a big week. Rock n roll in different directions, heavy drones and other shimmering tones.

Well, on reflection, this might well be one of the best November release schedules that we’ve ever known. One more week of bangers for you?

Long March Through the Jazz Age is the final album from Chris Bailey and The Saints. It’s a moving farewell, Bailey died in April 2022 - a testament to a restless, uncompromising artist who always moved forward. His voice sounds fantastic, older and wistful, but still so full of character and idiosyncrasy. Although slightly maudlin overall, there are some pretty meaty riffs across the album and it’s one we’ve already played a bunch at Drift. Country pop, orchestral flourishes and lots of guitar shimmer.

The iconic duo of Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson return as Sunn O))) and we didn’t even realise how much we were ready for this! Eternity’s Pillars is an all new three track 12”, triple slabs of long form monolithic guitar drones. It is heavy and it is absolutely thrilling, so richly dark. It is pressed on very limited Red colour vinyl, absolutely not one to miss out on folks.

What a year it’s been already for Sharp Pins (the solo project of Lifeguard's Kai Slater). Following the excellent Radio DDR, he already returns this week with Balloon Balloon Balloon, a twenty track set of sunny guitar jangles. I mean, it’s very us, but this one really is a peach, somewhere between scrappier GBV and the more swooning end of The Kinks catalogue. An album that goes in a flash and lives long in the earworms. Highly recommended.

XL Recordings give a full release to Jim Legxacy’s black british music mixtape. Mostly self produced, it has real cut-and-paste energy, whilst also having a great cohesion. As you well know, this is really good.

A supergroup of outsider music makers, the eponymous Quatermass III is in the racks this week and it really is a belter. Stompy, sludgy rock and roll with weirdo sci-fi noises, wails and screams, and tons of charm. One of those impossible not to like kinds of records.

Keeping it riffy, OSEES - the best live band on the planet™ - release the limited Live at the Broad, a dark and swirling set recorded at Los Angeles’ contemporary art museum. As Jon Dwyer explains, it’s “A bunch of Krauty jams we've never played live before and a couple old favs”. Nothing misses.

+ Available on a limited UK exclusive double Blue Jay & Neon Orange colour vinyl pressing.

DITZ return with Don Enzo Magic Carpet Salesman — a 9-minute, three-part noise-rock epic on 12”. Fierce and hypnotic stuff.

Sadly, our November Record of the Month - Changes in Air from Kara-Lis Coverdale - has been delayed. We’re hearing it could be early 2026 now, which is a shame, but we’ll keep you posted. Her gorgeous A Series of Actions in a Sphere of Forever is however back in stock. Get it!

Weird Walk Record Cult have made a limited edition available of Daisy Rickman’s enchanting Howl LP. This new pressing - and, folks, we really don’t have many - is on tri-colour Orange, Black & Purple colour vinyl. Sounds even more special as the weather down here in Totnes got winter-wild!

We have so much to tell you over the next week, but know that our Records of the Year is announced tomorrow, and we will also be talking soon about Best New Reissues from; Parquet Courts, J Dilla, Neil Young, The Dead 60s, Daft Punk and Jimmy Jules & The Nuclear Soul System!
