A compilation dispatch today with three curated collections that we are really feeling.

Sublime sides from the heads at Numero this week with Soft Summer Breezes, sixteen gentle moments of soft psychedelia. Late sixties baroque pop with shimmering strings, hazy harmonies and bossa nova hues. It really is time capsule stuff, a who's who of artists we didn’t know but have fast fallen for. Really can’t wait to lay down and have this stunner soundtrack on looking at the big blue sky.

We have another really killer set compiled under the ‘Jazz Dispensary’ banner, with The Freedom Sound! The People Arise on Craft Recordings. Loosely, a collection of jams propelled by the spirit of nature, protest, and freedom. Alongside one of our 2024 crushes in Joe Henderson, the set also features cuts from Gary Bartz, Ran Blake, Azar Lawrence, A.K. Salim and The Dungills.

Lastly today, genuinely one of our most favourite ever compilations with Soul Jazz’s absolutely wonderful Delta Swamp Rock. Originally released back in 2011, Sounds From The South: At The Crossroads Of Rock, Country And Soul is just absolute gold, essential, grooving or heartbreaking on every track. Featuring Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bobbie Gentry, Leon Russell, Link Wray, Bobbie Gentry, Waylon Jennings and dozens more, Delta Swamp Rock explores the musical and cultural links between the cities of Memphis, Muscle Shoals and Nashville in the 1960s and 70s.

The album is just as evocative as it was a decade ago, and the songs are certainly as enthralling as they all were some forty plus years before that. A proper icon.
