Drift Sunday Digest: 31st January 2021

Drift Sunday Digest: 31st January 2021

Things to read and listen to on a Velvet rainy Sunday Morning.

Hello, Friends.

Firstly this Sunday we, like so many others, were so very sad to learn on Saturday morning that the acclaimed producer, arranger, songwriter and performer SOPHIE had died.

As people who listen to the widest spectrum of music, we can remember so clearly the arrival of Bipp back in the early twenty-teens. It was just thrilling, wildly inventive production and finding new noises is always such a treat. The NME did a good job of pulling together all of the amazing musical voices who have paid tribute to SOPHIE and really does pay testament to the many many folks she inspired and touched. A rare talent indeed.

Super sad. Please do look up her music; not a huge collection of work, but no wasted gestures.

Fuzz Live

HOLD. ONTO. SOMETHING...

In The Red Records has dropped a very special live set from our boys Fuzz... And it is pure fire! Recorded live at Los Angeles' Gold Diggers Studio 1, the four track session has all of the Fuzz ingredients in fine fettle as they blast through cuts from their immaculate back catalogue. A reminder that III was our 2020 Album of The Year and we have our last few special editions (exclusive green vinyl, a numbered riso print, a petrol egg sticker and guitar pick) available online now.

The session is live now and will remain so for February (we think), but get online and tune in ASAP. Witness the power of Fuzz.

Looking to the future, the band has announced 2022 live dates and that cheered us up too! GIGS!!!

Nancy Sinatra

"I'll never forgive Trump voters. I hope the anger doesn't kill me"

Eve Barlow spoke to the iconic Nancy Sinatra for this weekend's Guardian G2 about her forthcoming 'Start Walkin’ 1965-1976' on Ljght In The Attic. The definitive new collection surveys Sinatra’s most prolific period over 1965-1976, including her revered collaborations with Lee Hazlewood, over twenty-three tracks. She is such a giving interviewee, we do hope that even more people have the chance to speak to her over the next few weeks.

The album (now released at the end of March) has a new and very limited 'Velvet Morning Sunrise Yellow Vinyl' edition, you can look at that over here.
