Pinch, punch, we’ve got a pretty good hunch... that you’re gonna love this lot.

Hello, Friends.

Our first Album of the Week to kick off October is the absolutely pounding debut album from Working Men’s Club, man we love this band. We saw them a good year back live and they just had it going on. If things had gone otherwise in 2020 they would have joined us at Sea Change back in May and this album would have been spinning for many months on our stereos... But that is not the 2020 we got, right? Placing all that aside, what we do have is one of the most exciting young bands to come out of these isles in a very long time and a seriously assured debut. Smart, knowing, funny, pummelling and just one that grabs you by the collar and delivers. Super stuff. This first pressing is;

+ Neon yellow vinyl.
+ Poster insert.
+ Printed inner sleeves.
+ Membership card style download card.
+ Embossed, neon pantone and laminated logo on sleeve. Looks sick.
+ Includes a bonus megamix CD.

You can also join us tonight (8pm UK time) to watch Working Men's Club: A live performance film. Read more.

One of our very most favourites. The Ascension is the eighth solo studio album from singer, songwriter and composer Sufjan Stevens. The first thing to get across here, this is seriously dense. We've listened to it a dozen or so times these last few weeks and it hardly ever sounds the same. It's his most electronic work since The BQE, but he is really giving lyrically. It's a fascinating companion to Carrie & Lowell, it's as heartbreaking and raw, but so dramatic and utterly epic. One to really go back in on, might end up being his biggest-ever grower.

+ We'll be putting 12" art cards in all LP orders whilst stocks last.

 Leo at Drift

Ha Chu is the second album as Pan Amsterdam from American, genre-bending jazz trumpeter, composer vocalist Leron Thomas. We were so thrilled to work on this one as a Dinked Edition (we sold out!), such lush hazy vibes and guest vocals from Jason Williamson (Sleaford Mods) and Jimi Goodwin (Doves) take it somewhere else.

Whatever It Is is the debut LP from Hello Forever. Super hypnotic pop vibes from the Topanga collective. Sunshine Animal Collective kaleidoscopics and really lush throughout.

+ Limited Edition 'Indie Shop' Pacific Blue & White Ink Spot LP with bonus 7” featuring new single ‘Everything Is So Hard’.

Long-overdue physical release of Alfredo, the joint project and second collaboration from Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist. CD is here, but ironically the LP is a bit late.

Shiver is the exciting and beautiful second record from LA-based Icelandic musician and Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi

+ Very limited Indie version is pressed on black heavyweight 180g vinyl and is limited to just 500 copies for the UK.

French-Colombian via NYC multi-instrumental, multi-disciplined rapper and singer Gabriel Garzón-Montano returns witn Agüita, his second album of cross-genre, up-front pop jams.

+ Indie version LP is pressed on limited opaque yellow coloured vinyl.

Lana Del Rey reads from her debut poetry book 'Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass', with musical accompaniment from frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff.

+ Pressed on black 180g vinyl in a 12” gatefold outer sleeve with printed 12” inner sleeves. The High Street Exclusive edition is pressed on dark green 180g vinyl.

We also have new releases from Groove Armada (their first new material in a decade), supergroup (Miles Kane, Nic Cester, Graham Coxon, Jamie Davis, Matt Bellamy and Sean Payne) The Jaded Hearts Club, signed copies of Red Rum Club's The Hollow of Humdrum and Mera Bhai of Flamingods drops his technicolour Futureproofing EP on Moshi Moshi.

HOT A.F. OFF THE PRESSES... Heavenly have sent us a pinch of Raf Rundell's Monsterpiece Remix 12"s, featuring a couple of takes each from Joe Godard and Harvey Sutherland. Popping random colour vinyl in a Heavenly house bag!

New Order

Oh my, New Order in the house in fine form this week. We have a 2020 Definitive Edition Box Set for Power, Corruption & Lies to include an LP, 2 CD, 2 DVD & book set, housed in a lift-top box. It really is a stunner. To celebrate the drop, we also have four really limited remastered 12" singles; Confusion, Thieves Like Us, Murder and the super iconic Blue Monday.

Have a browse: driftrecords.com/collections/new-order

Reissued on their own Evolution imprint, we have three absolutely essential Global Communication releases. Fully remastered from the original DAT tapes with care taken to retain the full dynamics of the original recordings, they sound absolutely mint. The ambient/techno classic 76:14, the quiet revolutionary 1993 full album overhaul of 'Blood Music' by Evolution label mates Chapterhouse and Transmissions, a 3CD set to also include curated Singles & Remixes.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Oasis' (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, they have pressed a really short run on double silver vinyl. We only have a pinch left on this. Doesn't include the previously advertised Oasis face mask.

Ella Fitzgerald's The Lost Berlin Tapes were recorded – incredibly in both mono and stereo – at Berlin’s Sportpalast on March 25, 1962 and finds Ella at the top of her game with a trio led by pianist Paul Smith, Wilfred Middlebrooks on bass, and Stan Levey on drums. CD in the house, LP due in a few weeks now.

A couple of killer editions on Viper for all you La heads with 1985–1986: Breakloose and 1986–1987: Callin' All. Early, raw and pretty bangin'.

Lastly this week, the gift that truly keeps giving. Various Artists - Oriental Rare Groove – Rare Funky Songs From The Arabic World. Deep funk cuts, party rhythms and inexplicably an essential cover version of Pop Corn right in the middle. An absolute joy not to be missed.

See you down the front at WMC and don't sleep in! we have a Dinked announcement at 10am tomorrow that is gonna fly out.
