Not so much of a departure from their ramshackle country roots, but an organic progression through a euphoric Springsteen sort of rock and roll, dragging elements of New Orleans, The Bronx and an imagined Puerto Rico. The Navigator is a concept album about modern day America, division, cultures, and clashes. It is smart and avoids all the pitfalls of generalising and dumbing down. The place is in a mess, it's complicated and so is this record.
