Hello, Friends.

Released in the August of 1966, Revolver is the seventh studio LP from The Beatles and it remains a fascinating (and lofty) point in their creative evolution. Arriving a year after the raw and melodic Help! and Rubber Soul albums, it still has that deeply ingrained four-piece dynamism, but with gestures towards Indian influences and some pretty innovative studio explorations; it hinted at the following year’s Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. ‘I Want to Tell You’ rolling into ‘Got to Get You into My Life’ at the tail end of the second side are some of the finest moments they ever recorded… and we’re not open for discussion.

To celebrate its 56th Birthday, the album has been revisited and newly mixed by producer Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell in stereo and Dolby Atmos. It’s all sourced from the 1966 mono master tapes and it has to be said; for a fan, it’s a pretty emotional experience, it just sounds amazing. Welcome to the start of their studio wizardry phase, this is essential listening.

Charles Mingus - A Modern Jazz Symposium Of Music & Poetry

Back in 1957, Charles Mingus was, as they say, on fire! Five studio sets were committed to tape (including iconic releases; The Clown, Mingus Three, Tijuana Moods and East Coasting) most impressively perhaps was A Modern Jazz Symposium Of Music And Poetry, which receives a lavish reissue today via New Land. This truly is the ultimate edition, including all available outtakes and material related (featuring rare photographs and words from original pianist Bob Hammer) to the session. The recordings have been remastered from the original tape transfers and lacquers cut by Kevin Gray - so they sound totally amazing - plus it’s all housed in a gatefold sleeve on reverse-board finish and printed by Pallas. A thing of beauty!

AM Sound

Joni Mitchell’s For The Roses is just a few weeks shy of fifty years old and Rhino have pressed it up on a limited Transparent Blue colour vinyl to celebrate. Her fifth album falls chronologically between Blue and Court and Spark, often getting overlooked, but it very much shouldn’t. Heartbreaking writing but surprisingly breezy in places.

Baked Goods Records celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of Dinosaur Jr.’s Beyond album with a limited edition. Pressed up on Purple and Green colour vinyl, it also includes a bonus 7” single. The album was the first from the original lineup since 1988’s ‘Bug’, kicking off the ongoing Dinosaur Jr. reunion.

We have just a few more copies of Ben Howard’s Burgh Island EP if you’re quick. We also have a very limited Black and Silver Marble vinyl repress of Anna von Hausswolff’s amazing The Miraculous.

Lastly today, we’re delighted to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Cate Le Bon’s Cyrk & Cyrk II releases with a very limited, very deluxe Dinked Archive Edition. The 2012 album and companion release (recorded during the same sessions) are a woozed take on pastoral folk, with subtle gestures towards the expansive psychedelia that would follow. We’ve loved playing this one, such a lush package too.
