Wild, heavy, swooning, whining and plenty more. We are back to business!
Our Record of the Week is the self-titled debut album from Chime Oblivion, a glorious mess of punk, no-wave, and all-out experimental chaos. A supergroup from David Barbarossa (of Adam & the Ants fame) and John Dwyer (creator of the Oh Sees metaverse!) that trips through genres with total abandon; it really is a ride. Full of hooks, yelps and delicious inventions. Enjoying this muchly.
+ Killer sleeve art, plus an exclusive 'Easter Yellow' colour vinyl pressing.
Zach Condon’s Beirut returns with A Study Of Losses, one of his fullest and most captivating albums yet, blending lush orchestration with introspective, atmospheric soundscapes. Inspired by themes of loss and impermanence and created for a Swedish circus adaptation of Judith Schalansky’s novel, it’s just always - as ever - about his voice. Swooning magic.
+ Available on limited Translucent Blue vinyl.
One that we have been grooving on for weeks now: Electric War sees British trio Little Barrie team up with producer Malcolm Catto for a quite thrilling sonic adventure. Sharp guitars, pounding drums, and swirling textures. The album blends rock, funk, and psychedelia into a raw and experimental soundscape, we’ll sell so many of these off the stereo! A proper must-listen for fans of bold, instrumental-driven music.
Our exclusive Dinked Edition is available on split Black and White vinyl and includes a signed A6 photo insert. Numbered edition of just 500 copies.
Send a Prayer My Way is the highly-anticipated collaborative debut album from Julien Baker & TORRES. They have used Country hues as the main tone of voice, capturing a certain rebellious spirit and lots of frank and emotionally charged lyrics - Which is pretty much Country in a nutshell, right? Plenty going on and both voices sound great with the classic country whine.
+ Available on limited Blue vinyl.
Heavy Lungs unleash Caviar, a blistering 30-minute assault of raw, live-recorded rock intensity. Crafted in chaotic, dimly lit spaces, the album captures their signature sweaty, cathartic energy. One of Bristol’s loudest and most unapologetic acts.
Melbourne duo Divide and Dissolve return with Insatiable. Blending doom metal with a sort of vulnerable optimism, the album explores the choice between destruction and compassion. Thunderous riffs, atmospheric heaviness and raw emotional intensity. Thrilling stuff.
+ Available on limited Dark Green vinyl.
We have four really killer albums for you to investigate a little further, with; I Heard That Noise, the hugely evocative new LP from Portland-based musician quickly, quickly. The sublime Blue Veil documents the solo cello work of musician and composer Lucy Railton. The haunting and quite beautiful The Foel Tower from Bristol-based four piece Quade. New Orleans duo The Convenience get really wild on Like Cartoon Vampires. Honestly, all are great!
Lastly, Coastal: The Soundtrack charts eleven live recordings - from Daryl Hannah’s tour film of the same name - by Neil Young. A rare peek behind the curtain of this unguarded iconoclast as he returns to the stage post-pandemic. He is funny, he is insightful and he remains idiosyncratic.
