Drift Sunday Digest: 7th February 2021

Drift Sunday Digest: 7th February 2021

Films, venues, gigs, bands, conversations, books, shops, racks and a huge monkey.

Hello, Friends.

Back in the warm summer nights of May 2019, you'll no doubt recall that we spoke a lot about Stewart Lee and Michael Cumming joining us at Sea Change to talk about a film they were working on. They even filmed a few odds and ends whilst they were with us. That film is called King Rocker and it investigates a missing piece of punk history: Robert Lloyd, best known for fronting cult Birmingham bands The Prefects and The Nightingales

King Rocker premiered last night on Sky Arts and it's just brilliant. I think you can watch Sky Arts on Freeview and on other on-demand set ups, so do look it up.

Roof Dog

Rough Trade Books presents... Roof Dog.

Back in the summer, three of our good buds came together to talk about a venue we love. Rough Trade Books - as part of the Love Record Stores event that we curated - asked journalist and broadcaster Laura Barton to interview author Will Hodgkinson about the iconic Brixton Windmill venue, the subject of his recent book Roof Dog.

Listening this week at Drift HQ to Squid, Goat Girl, BCNR and some other bits we're probably not supposed to be mentioning yet, it's a stark reminder of how important the venue is and how many amazing bands have graced it's stage. We look forward very much to heading back there one day.

You can watch the conversation in full here.

World of Echo

Deluxe Shops | World Of Echo

As we look at the next few months and think about when and how we'll re-open the doors at Drift (we don't really have any plans at the moment since we're chatting about it...), we thought we'd share some archive shop visits from the pages of Deluxe. Revisiting some racks that we really miss touching.

Based on London's Columbia Road - home to the famous flower market - World of Echo haven’t wasted an inch of space in their airy shop, it all tells a story. We spoke to founders Stephen and Natalie in September 2019 and you can read about it here.
