Best New Reissues

Julie Doiron, Mk.gee, Rilo Kiley, The All Seeing I, “Gather In The Mushrooms” and Isaac Hayes.

Grunge-adjacent slow burners, Panther-walking groovers, folky idealism, Hot Buttered Soul and more.

Numero put their attention this week on Canadian singer-songwriter Julie Doiron, with real nice reissues of her Loneliest In The Morning and Broken Girl albums.

Recorded in Memphis during a break from her work in the band Eric’s Trip, Loneliest In The Morning finds Julie Doiron at her most raw and vulnerable. Backed by Howe Gelb and David Shouse, these songs trace the contours of postpartum depression with stark honesty, set against a backdrop of hushed guitars and slow-burning melancholia. Broken Girl channels bedroom pop through a haze of distortion and soft-grunge melancholy. Been playing both loads, they have such a raw energy to them. Both are pressed on limited and exclusive colour vinyl.

Now we really don’t have to over-hype Mk.gee’s Two Star & The Dream Police as we spent the majority of last year trying to keep him in stock! Lo-fi and murky, with a lush middle ground between pop, rock and soul. Really woozy stuff.

+ Limited Transparent Green vinyl pressing.

Rilo Kiley’s excellent 2002 album The Execution of All Things is reissued in super-nice style this week with a “Frozen Lake Edition”. Jenny Lewis’ songwriting is fantastic, really pop sensitive, but also full of quite nuanced emotion. Recorded with Mike Mogis in Nebraska, this one sounds fresh and vibrant as it turns twenty-something.

+ Available on Cloudy Clear vinyl + Bonus 7"

This week’s “I remember quite liking that one, but have actually REALLY enjoyed playing it again” award goes to Pickled Eggs & Sherbet, the sole album from The All Seeing I, the Sheffield production trio of Dean Honer, Jason Buckle, and Richard Barrett. Originally released in the late '90s, it weaves together strands of big beat, trip hop, and local music history, with guest appearances from Tony Christie, Phil Oakey, and Jarvis Cocker.

If you wanna come and see us for a pickled egg, we are here for you.

+ Pressed on limited double Yellow and Red colour vinyl.

We have two fantastic compilations landing with us.

Compiled by Bob Stanley to document the acid folk scene, “Gather In The Mushrooms” was first issued in 2004 on Sanctuary as a CD-only release. This new edition of “Gather In The Mushrooms” contains the cream of both long-deleted compilations with a few additions – COB, Roy Harper, Fotheringay – that weren’t available to Sanctuary at the time. Each song is a little time capsule back to gentle optimistic idealism… which feels a bit sad in 2025. Great collection all the same.

Following the success of the first volume, Hot Buttered Singles Vol. 2 continues the story of Isaac Hayes’ singles from 1972 to 1976, tracing his transition from Stax’s Enterprise label to his own Hot Buttered Soul imprint.

Also this week, we have a 10th Anniversary Edition of blur’s The Magic Whip, featuring new cover artwork by original designer Tony Hung with a reimagining of the iconic ice cream cover with added gold foil and embossed details. Ghostly International presents a full reissue of HTRK’s lush 2021 LP, Rhinestones. We have the third and final Sex Pistols Live In The U.S.A LP, with the band causing drama in San Francisco. Also, a double Blue vinyl pressing of The Dandy Warhols evergreen Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia.

Lots of announcements this week so keep those peepers peeled! We also have a ton of essential restocks landing now that we got all that RSD shelf space back!

Oh, we have half a dozen Oasis singles left and going in stock… now!
