Best New Reissues

Neil Young, Parquet Courts, The Dead 60s, Daft Punk, The Holydrug Couple and J Dilla.

Not only are they the Best New Reissues, this set contains straight up a handful of our favourite albums of all time.

Recorded between August and September 1973, Tonight’s The Night contains some of the darkest and most alluring moments in Neil Young’s early career. The album would debut a couple of years later, chronologically falling between On the Beach (1974) and Zuma (1975) and flowing with the same dark magic and gnarled country hues.

“Tonight's The Night is like an OD letter. The whole thing is about life, dope and death. When we played that music we were all thinking of Danny Whitten and Bruce Berry, two close members of our unit lost to junk overdoses. The Tonight's The Night sessions were the first time what was left of Crazy Horse had gotten together since Danny died. It was up to us to get the strength together among us to fill the hole he left.”
- Neil Young talking to Cameron Crowe for Rolling Stone.

+ This fiftieth anniversary pressing has a newly expanded track listing that includes 6 bonus tracks along with an unreleased original version of Lookout Joe recorded during the original 1973 album sessions at S.I.R. in Los Angeles. Housed in new artwork, we have an exclusive double Clear vinyl pressing.

Now these really won’t knock around long so we won’t ever egg it, but we just put half a dozen copies of the self-titled Dinked Archive Edition pressing of The Dead 60s in stock. Swirls of punk and dub with Liverpool swagger. Really good stuff.

We spoke about Parquet Courts’ all-time iconic Light Up Gold over the weekend for Sunday Classic, which you can read here. The album has a fresh 2025 repress on Rough Trade, as does the companion Tally All The Things You Broke EP which is another slab of essential meat.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Daft Punk’s chart-topping goliath of a third album, Human After All, we have the complete set of accompanying Human After All Remixes, available in full on vinyl for the first time. Peaches, Soulwax, Erol Alkan and a proper wedge of other bangers too across a double pressing.

The Two Piers Records crew have put together another banger, turning the focus this time onto The Sounds of Psychedelic Soul & Funk 1967-2024. Soul Psychédélique runs from legends of the Soul Psych scene like Curtis Mayfield, The Chambers Brothers, Marlena Shaw, through soul titans Terry Callier and Bobby Womack, right up to modern-day exponents of the scene like Khruangbin, Gabriels and Michael Kiwanuka. It’s a trip alright!

+ Available on very limited deluxe double Purple & Orange colour vinyl.

Also this week, we have a 15th Anniversary edition of Two Door Cinema Club’s Tourist History album, also a new 2025 edition of The Holydrug Couple’s Moonlust, cosmic transmissions in a shiny sleeve!

Luckily, we have at the very least entered December, so we don’t feel quite so ridiculous talking about Xmas Done Got Funky! An absolutely deadly Xmas-funk album, cut by cruel crooner Jimmy Jules, devastating diva Jackie Spencer, and backed by the venomous Nuclear Soul System. This ain’t no silent night!

+ Available on limited Crystal Clear colour vinyl.

In a similar direction, we’ll try and get hold of more copies of A Los Campesinos! Christmas.

Lastly for today, one of the very finest albums ever, presented as a limited, Audiophile Edition. Donuts began simply enough as an idea to turn a demo tape into a full-length album. It would end up being one of the defining works of J Dilla’s life. Nothing short of a magnum opus, we wrote about how much we love it a while ago for Sunday Classic, and you can read that again here. Starting with an outro and looping like daydreams (or Donuts?).

+ It’s a lush edition; Lacquers cut at Bernie Grundman. Manufactured at Fidelity Record Pressing in California. 2LP 180g vinyl cut at 45rpm. Deluxe art printed Stoughton jacket.
