Garden Party is the new free-flowing psychedelic country set from Rose City Band and we absolutely bloody love it! It is the sound of pure feel-good light; old country tones, new country tones and different shades of kaleidoscopic-sonics. The performance and production sounds amazing, but it’s the subtle changes of pace that make this one such a peach. Our Record of the Week and a real joy.

Fuse is the first new album in 24 years from the iconic pop duo, Everything But The Girl. After such a break, it’s reassuring that they sound very much like older, wiser and more experienced versions of themselves. There is quite a lot of fragility, but it’s not without its drive either. A really good listen.

Star Eaters Delight is the new LP from Lael Neale on Sub Pop and it’s really quite special. It often appears to be minimal and stripped back, but the way she has created such drive and euphoria is hugely impressive. Her voice is honest and unfussy, but is also very much the main event as centerpoint and narrator. Another album with a great vibe and some serious stand out moments.

Anglo American duo Baba Ali return with their second album - Laugh Like A Bomb - this week on Memphis Industries. Self-produced (at Al Doyle’s studio), there is a real pomp to the production, driving electroclash and a sort of punk take on disco. You’ll hear this one about and you’ll like it, it’s got it going on.

Nails is the much-anticipated debut from critically acclaimed Teesside agitators, Benefits. Mate, they are fuming. Can’t remember an album being this directly angry in ages. They get a good pace going and manage to keep it boiling without sounding repetitive or idly ranty.
The excellent Holiday Ghosts return on Fat Cat with the new Absolute Reality LP. They are such a great rock and roll band, loose and meandering vibes with great hooks and a deft knack to sneak in smart one liners. Really good stuff.
Darling The Dawn is the new collaborative release from Ariel Engle (Broken Social Scene, Patrick Watson, La Force) and Efrim Manuel Menuck (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Thee Silver Mt. Zion) as ALL HANDS_MAKE LIGHT. Got really lost in this one the other night, kosmische electronics with shoegaze shapes, it’s a trip!
Also released this week Rodrigo y Gabriela reunite for In Between Thoughts...A New World. Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quin of Keane release their new collaborative Through Crooked Aim under the Mt. Desolation name. Coast 2 Coast is French-American duo Pearl & The Oysters’ debut album for Stones Throw.
Alfa Mist’s new Variables LP is still en route, so we’ll talk about that a little more once we’ve got this weekend out the way, as it looks to be a very special one indeed.
