A smashing set of new records to end an absolutely bananas week at Drift.

Hello, Friends.

Thanks again to all of you who joined us last weekend for Record Store Day. It was well good fun. For those of you who don't live close enough or were otherwise engaged, a reminder that all the exclusive releases will be online Friday night at midnight. You can browse through the titles we'll likely still have stock on here: driftrecords.com/RSD19. We have some of the big hitters, so set your alarms and join the swarm online!

Record of the Week is Serfs Up!, the utterly raucous return of Fat White Family. It's the bands third LP (their first with new partner Domino) and is the fullest they have sounded yet. Some quite glitchy electro-clash tones, some moments that sound positively yacht-rock and their hall mark glam rock stompers. It's fun above all else, and in that they cram SO much in, there is a lot to be found on repeats. We have the super limited Feet 12" and there will be another 10" landing early next week.

+ Limited Indie LP version pressed on coloured heavyweight vinyl.

We have said it before and we'll say it again, Wand are one of the best bands around. They are that rare combo of prolific and consistently provoking. They started with burning psych jams and have grown and changed (even across the same record) to use classic west-coast ballads, woozy analogue pop and some of the most genuinely psychedelic music about. There is so much going on here with Laughing Matter, back to back listens and you can miss so many magic moments. Brilliant band, another lush album.

You know we always go mad for Border Community, but they have teamed up with Leafcutter John to release Yes! Come Parade With Us and it is utter magic. Such joyous music that unwraps track to track from tightly wound palletes. Wonky, handmade and magnificent.

Wand

Second Drugdealer album - Raw Honey - this week on Mexican Summer. Hazy analogue vibes, upbeat with some quiet melancholia in the background. Great guest appearances, feels like a big team without sounding incoherent. Lush guitar tones throughout!

Stealing Sheep make a very welcome return on Heavenly with Big Wows, an album of pop bangers. Lots of references to retro futuristic, but in a way that remains fun.

+ First run of the LP comes pressed on coloured splatter vinyl and housed in a mirrorboard sleeve.

Invitation is the third album from Heather Woods Broderick, Sharon Van Etten’s longtime collaborator and band member. Wistful and pastoral, features vocals and synth contributions from (her brother) Peter Broderick.

+ Limited Indie Edition is pressed on Coral and Seawater coloured vinyl.

Loyle Carner was both BRIT and Mercury nominated on his debut, so expectation on Not Waving, But Drowning is all time high. Where as the expectation would perhaps be mega high budget, there is a really nice lo-fi element to the album, it still feels connected to the humble origins of his debut.

Last newie this week is Happy Now from pioneering post-punks Gang of Four. Some super sharp guitar lines in the cold waves, this is no sentimentalism.

+ The Indie Edition is pressed on White Splatter vinyl

Record Store Day

On January 17th, 2009, Elbow played a very special show to an invited audience at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios. Alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra, the band created an orchestral version of The Seldom Seen Kid. It gets a lush half-speed master today across double LP.

The Rolling Stones release a brand-new 'Best-Of' compilation album, Honk. Featuring the biggest hits and classic cuts from every Rolling Stones studio album from 1971 to 2016's Blue & Lonesome. Features some big guests and... Ed Sheeran.

Invada reissue Jim Williams' score to the Ben Wheatley film, A Field In England. Ben Wheatley’s black-and-white chamber horror, set amidst the strange margins of the English Civil War. Essential reissue and a lush looking edition on frosted clear double vinyl, housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve printed on reverse board.

Some real beauties here, do put time aside to dig in. We'll be racking stuff up all day Friday and getting the servers ready for that big Friday night rush. Saturday we're open as normal, Sunday and Monday we are closed.
