Records of the Week

The Cure, Peter Perrett, deary, Jennifer Castle, THUS LOVE, King Pari, Thee Alcoholics, Moin, and Hosono House Revisited.

Old friends, new friends, new sounds and all the usual tones that get us going. It’s a good week.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll be well aware that Songs Of A Lost World is the all-new studio album from The Cure. It is richly dark stuff, full of melancholy and angst with hugely inventive production and sound design. Eight songs, just under fifty minutes and just far too maximal to take in on one listen. Or a few actually. Really impressive stuff.

So the punchline is that we haven’t received all of our stock yet on the handsome-looking exclusive Marble vinyl pressing. If you pre ordered it with us, you have been shipped or it is ready for collection. If you still haven’t bought one, you can pre order now and we will have copies mid/late next week. We mean, it took 16 years so a few extra days is okay right?
The Cure
The Cleansing is an all-new 20 song set from 72-year-old former Only Ones frontman, Peter Perrett. Full of notable guests who all create a fine jangle, but this is very much about Perrett and he sounds glorious. Into this!

Just under a year after their acclaimed, self-titled debut, dreampop duo deary release a brand new six-track EP this week on the award-winning Sonic Cathedral. Aurelia was mastered by Slowdive drummer Simon Scott who also plays on three tracks. Big, swirling shoegaze that is as dreamy as it is delicious.

+ Pressed on Translucent Gold vinyl.

Canadian singer-songwriter Jennifer Castle returns this week on Paradise of Bachelors with Camelot and it’s bloody good. A lush balance of melancholy and joy, which is matched in the arrangements too. Plenty to dig into here.

Vermont-based THUS LOVE release All Pleasure on Captured Tracks and it’s another one that’s out this week with a lot to offer. It has a thick, post-punk plod to it and the guitars rip through to quite angular effect. When it snarls, it really snarls.

+ Pressed on limited Silver vinyl.

Our favourite 'noisy' of the week is Bear Bites Horse Sessions from Thee Alcoholics on Rocket Recordings. Industrial hues to the guitar wails and a malevolence to the moteriks. Riffs. Feedback. Gnarl. This one is a cracker.

+ Pressed on limited ‘Tea’ coloured vinyl.

There It Goes is the newie from LA-via-Minneapolis duo King Pari. It is a proper groover, with swirling funk and crunchy lo-fi aesthetics.

+ Pressed on Tangerine colour vinyl
.

You Never End is the new LP from London trio Moin and it is, honestly, a proper dark treasure. Rich and textured sonics with vocals that ebb and flow from a slew of collaborators. An unbelievably focused atmosphere throughout, it is just magic. We worked with the band and AD 93 to produce a Dinked Edition.
Hosono House
You all know how much we love Haruomi Hosono right? Well, so do Sam Gendel, John Carroll Kirby, The Mizuhara Sisters, Pearl and The Oysters, Jerry Paper, Cornelius, Akiko Yano, Mac DeMarco and others who contribute to the really lush Hosono House Revisited compilation. Celebrating 50 years since the Yellow Magic Orchestra man dropped his iconic Hosono House, the varied guests all offer up interpretations of Hosono’s songs. A great energy throughout.

Reissues hitting the racks too from; Royal Trux, Chet Baker, Terry Riley, Bobby Hutcherson and Soul Jazz’s D-I-Y: DO-IT-YOURSELF.
