Ty Segall - Ty Segall

Ty Segall - Ty Segall

Record of the Week, oh my God... the new Ty Segall LP is just top-to-tail brilliant.

We always go hard for Ty Segall, whether he's on his own, producing, in Fuzz or most recently GØGGS... so you could argue we're not the most neutral set of ears here. But fans aside, this new self-titled LP fully articulates his ability as a songwriter, as producer and performer. There are some gnarly moments, but it is much more sculpted in the warm fuzz of organs. There is a beautifully antique psychedelia going on, much like Tim Presley on 'For the Recently Found Innocent' (that was recorded in Ty's garage...), there is also a distinctly British tone to it all.

At the start and end of the album there are some brilliant double vocal/double guitar play-offs that rip through the gears with such ease, he truly is the undisputed king of the garage. The most exciting thing (and we've played this LP about 48 times since Christmas) is the middle section where he experiments wildly but with cohesion, drive and some of the most addictive jams of his illustrious career.

A bloody gem. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
